What is the difference between SMS and mms?

I know the MMS messages are more expensive if you don't have a messaging plan on your phone.  Other then that I rely on search engines for the answer.

Thanks for the imformation,is there any other app that I can use other than handcent sms?

No idea about any other apps for the messaging.  I still use the stock message app and have liked it.  It was SO MUCH better the message area from my old Motorola W385 flip phone.
