Messaging smiley's question

When I use smiley's in messages my wife can see them, however when she sends them to me I only get the text version, not the face. Is this normal? If so, is there an app for the droid that will recieve them? Thank you

What kind of phone is your wife using?

Also are the smiley's coming across on your phone like this Smiley Happy or :smileyhappy: when they are displayed on your droid?

She has a BB. They look like :smileyhappy: when she sends them even hough she sees the graphic. But gets the graphic when she recieves them from me. Also I tried handsent and still the same.

That explains it. I also have a friend with a blackberry. When he types the smileys the official way Smiley Happy I received the graphic but if he shortcuts it :smileyhappy: I get text version. It must be the way the phones or Android recognizes the keystrokes.
