Micro SD not reading~replaced with new, too!

I was charging my phone last night, unplugged it and it basically told me my memory card is missing. I read that most of them can become corrupted, so I replaced it, with the same thing: a 16gb Micro SD... Still doesn't read my card!! I can't take pictures, I can't have music, etc..... When I plug it in to the computer it doesn't read it either. Nothing works. I took it out, put it back in~nothing! Do you think there is something wrong with my phone? I might just have to take it into my local store, huh? Grrr..... Oh and I "factory Reset" my phone, too~still won't read my cards!

Try pullling the battery wile still on and leave it off for a couple of minutes and then put everything back together.

That's become a regularl problem with the Droid X and SD cards. In August when I update my phone to GB, my card became corrupted after I turned off the phone and back on one night a few days after the update. Couldn't be read or anything, so I ended up having to go and buy a new card (Verizon is no help as they don't consider the SD card a part of the phone and outside of the warranty replacement - stupid policy if you ask me but thats a whole other story).

The replacement card I got, a PNY 16GB class 10 card was fine for a few weeks and then the file system on it became unreadable and I lost pictures...had to reformat the card. It worked ok like that for about 2-3 weeks and the same thing happened again. That was 3-4 weeks ago and early last week it did the exact same thing again (it has become almost a monthly thing).

I truly believe that the GB update has done something to cause the card to throw fits and not want to be recognized. My phone worked absolutely fine from when I bought it in November 2010 until the GB update was pushed in August 2011...basically Froyo never gave my phone fits, and I have the exact same applications installed on it now that i did then. Some will say the apps are the reason, but I don't believe that since none of the problems I have, including the SD card issue, came up until after GB was installed.

Just wish Moto and VZW would own up to the SD card problem, but I doubt they will

ps - the battery pull option is not a viable solution to this. I've done it multiple times and nothing changes

Not to downgrade your problems; however, even with GB and the upgrades since then, I have never had a problem with my SD card. Could it just be that one of the apps you had with Froyo doesn't care for gingerbread? That is an outside possibility.

its a very slight possibility, but considering the original SD card that completely corrupted did so when there were no apps installed on the phone yet right after the OS was upgraded to GB, I do not believe so

Hi KtotheKK,

I understand your discontent; it is frustrating when a Memory card gets corrupted. Try Formatting the new SD Memory Card as this may resolve this issue. Keep us posted.

sorry formatting the card doesn't help - my after-market card has gone received a file system error 3 times since the GB update and it gets reformatted once a month since it becomes unreadable and I lose pictures and other files, nothing important YET. Its not the card that's the problem, I just find it ironic that the phone never had ONE problem prior to the GB update and now the SD card craps out on a regular basis. Instead of giving customers a patronizing message like 'it is frustrating when a memory card gets corrupted' (your scripts are old) that VZW actually figure out why the Droid X keeps having problems with SD cards either corrupting or having file system errors since the update to GB. There are numerous posts here on this forum as well as on various Android forums around the internet that talk about SD cards on the Droid X going bad or otherwise becoming unreadable and requiring a format since the update to GB was pushed to our phones

I'm having same exact problem, tried removing everything over and over, does nothing. Ive tried to format the card and chose the option when it comes up but then nothing happens, the prompt just leaves the screen and nothing happens.

My daughter had this problem too.. Verizon gave me a phone for SanDisk and told me that they would handle the problem, even though this is the SanDisk that CAME with the phone when I bought it from Verizon..

I called SanDisk, who told me to send it back to them for a replacement. TWO weeks later I get my OLD SanDisk back in the mail from SanDisk, stating that it was a PIRATE card and not their product!! .. Now remember, this is the card I got from Verizon!!

I called Verizon back, and told them, and after much ado, they finally sent me a new SanDisk card.. Guess what.. It did not work either.. They had to send me a replacement phone.. I then inserted new SanDisk they had sent, and all works again.

I think their policy of saying 'no we won't replace the card' is a stupid one.....it came with the phone so they should replace it. I'm out $30 cause I had to go and buy another card AFTER the original card that came with the phone corrupted, and with the new card I STILL have problems about once a month.

Anyway this is kinda interesting that SanDisk says the card is a pirate card. Make sense though that VZW/Moto just got a bulk purchase of cards to include with the phone and probably went with the lowest bidder.

But this is more proof that they CAN replace the card on their own if they want to, they just choose to ignore their customers complaints for the most part when there are numerous complains here and elsewhere about cards going bad in Droid X phones. Pretty poor way of conducting business
