Microphone not working because of the bottom plastic cover below buttons

In the process of trying to figure out why my Droid X microphone stopped working for no apparent reason and after many restarts, reboots & pulling the battery, mic still didn't work.  My husband & I figured out it was the bottom plastic piece just under the settings, home, return search buttons.  We tested the piece from his Droid on my Droid and microphone worked fine. Temporarily we took the tiny plastic (Mylar) off in center, cleaned the dirt off of it and stuck it back on the bottom plastic piece.

Works okay.  Now I need to find a replacement piece for mine, any ideas where I can find the piece.

Thank you

Cathy

Try this place. I had good luck a long time ago in another far away place buying StarTac and Razr parts...

Also, try Ebay. I did a search there and came up with more stuff than I could ever sift through.

Had you not disassembled it you could have taken it to the store under the warranty.  The piece of plastic should not have anything to do with your mic, the only exception is if it's physically damaged or the hole is blocked.

Bought the phone in July 2010... isn't the warranty only 30 days? Also, I didn't disassemble my phone. There was a dust billed up under the small plastic film.

That's the worry free warranty where you can cancel your vzw account with no penalty.  You have a 1 year manufacturers warranty for the device, 2 year warranty if you are paying for the TEC insurance.

Hi Geri

I order & received my replacement part for front microphone back in January and my phone works like new again.

Thank you again for the link.

Outstanding!

Glad to hear that the place worked out for them. I'm about to check with them on an original Droid Screen (Thanx, Daughter, for being oh so careful with your freshly-replaced Droid!)

Unbelievable! This is what has been wrong with my phone. That is just crazy! I am so happy. Thanks Cathy. Do you really need the little plastic piece? Wow.
