Wanting to give my Motorola Droid phone to my grandson, can this phone be used just for texing and as a phone without have the full data plan.

Hi. Any of the android phones can be used for texting. However each phone requires a data plan of at least $29.99 a month. That is a requirement. No way to get out of the data plan. If you ask me, it is worth it.
