Motorola Droid can't make or receive calls due to poor signal reception.

This morning my Motorola Droid started having trouble making and receiving calls. Incoming calls would go straight to voicemail. The strange thing is that the signal strengh would be 3 or 4 bars, but would drop to 0 bars as soon as the call was made. I have had excellent reception at my residence up until this morning. I took the phone in this afternoon to the local Verizon store, and they ran some diagnostics on the phone and told me there wasn't anything wrong, but that there might have been a cell tower issue that was resolved.... The service rep suggested

Has anyone else run into this issue? If so, how was it resolved?

The service rep suggested that it would probably work later in the day... but, no luck yet.....

I know some people have complained about this issue in the past. If you'll do a search, you'll find threads about it. i recommend dialing *228 + send and press option 2. If it turns out it is a cell tower issue, you'll just have to wait it out.

Yes, I am having the same problem. My Droid is working fine EXCEPT I cannot make, receive phone calls, send text messages or check voicemail. I have voicemail waiting that I cannot access. I have received text messages but cannot respond. My phone does not sound or vibrate when I receive calls and the call log does not show missed calls so I don't know who called.

I live in Illinois about 60 miles from Chicago. There are no reports of tower issues. My phone started having issues last night. It has been about 20 hours now.

I guess I will have to go into the Verizon store tomorrow.

I tried the suggestion to dial 228... but when I dial ANY number -nothing happens...no dial tone, no ringing nothing at all.

Let me know if anyone has suggestions.
