I apologize if it's already been posted but Google released an update for Maps for the Droid. It includes multi-touch pinch and zoom as well as automated night mode. To get the update simply go to the Android Market and click the options button, then click downloads. Maps should be at the top of the list with "update available" beside it. Again sorry if it's old news.

Whoa, didn't catch that before, thanks! It moves so smoothly, too!

Hmmm... Steve Jobs declares that Google's "Don't be evil" mantra is **bleep** and a week later we have pinch to zoom in Maps. Coincidence?

There is another update for Google Maps, now version 4.0 available on the Android Market.

Pinch to zoom seems much smoother in the 4.0 version.

I have a droid eris. Could you give me info on updating it? Your suggestion is not a listed option for me in downloads. Google Maps came with my phone, and I currently have ver. 3 point something.

Yeah, it doesn't even show up in the market for my Eris, which as you said, comes with g-maps. I guess we're stuck with the on-screen zoom bar. Maybe that will change with the OS update. I can live with it either way. I do hope we get the voice nav, but by all accounts that is coming. D Dave

I wish I had checked this feature before I did the update. In my "Kill selected apps" app, it shows the icon and "This application cannot be used until you grant it permission to....." and then I can't read the rest. And the location it shows for my location is not correct by several miles. Suggestions?

Okay I figured out what I was doing. I uninstalled the update and installed it again for good measure. (it's so easy to do!) Then I had both the "use wireless networks" and "use GPS satellites" options both checked and it was going off the cell tower for my location, I'm guessing. When I unchecked the wirless option, I got my location correct.

I got my current location once, really I did. But now it says "your current location is temporarily unavailable." Too many users?
