My DROID X is using 3g while am in my home wifi network

My current data plan is 150MB limit, so I want to use this limit while I am out of my home wifi network, I have reviewed my data usage for last few days and found that my droid x has consumed some data in 3g even Im in my home wifi network, for example on 11/10 4.40am (Im in deep sleep at home) my droid x has consumed nearly 10MB of data from 3g, I knew my home wifi network is having good signal and never lost the signal, but still my droid x has used 3g data, I have complained abt this with vzn CSR, he doesnt know the exact solution for this (saying some unrelated reasons like skype use 3g, my verizon use 3g etc) and redirected me to contact Motorola. Here is my question, while I am in home wifi network my droid x shouldnt use 3g data (i dont want to use airplan mode or 2x or 1x etc), any suggestion or solution please?

I just learned about this as well with my Droid 2. Apparently the wifi sleeps and switches to 3G. Go to menu -->Settings-->Wireless & networks-->Wi-Fi settings-->Hit Menu Again and hit Advanced. You will see Wi-Fi sleep policy. Change this to never. It will use more battery, but this should keep the 4am 3G downloads from happening.

Where is this option?

You need to set all your data functions for manual only.  Since you don't want to use airplane mode this is your only real option here.

You can try Quick Settings from the Market. When you open it press menu > customize and drag the mobile network switch up into the main settings group. I honestly don't know if it works for the Droid X but it does override the mobile network switch that is built into my HTC phone.

Hope that helps.

I believe when the phone is on standby for a certain amount of time it "disconnects" from the wifi and that's why like you said at 4am when you are asleep is using 3G service. I've noticed when I have the wifi on and it goes to "sleep" say for 20 minutes when I push the power button and unlock it the wifi connected icon is gone and it shows 3G for about 45 seconds then it shows "connection detected" again. Just something to keep in mind.

Yes, I too noticed the same, I believe during this time (idle time) it goes to 3G and consume certain amount of data . Any solution that during idle time also it should stick with the wifi network?

Actually I think you have some issue with your device because if you notice, when I log into wifi on my phone the 3G icon vanish because its disabled automatically..

The only thing I can think of besides Airplane Mode is to change some settings under Battery Manager > Battery Mode > and select the most restrictive data sync mode, you can even customize your own... other than that I can not think of any other way.

Airplane Mode is your best solution but since you do not want to use it try changing the Custom Power Saver Mode to restrict data connection during the hours you want..  Settings > Battery Manager > Battery Mode > Custom Battery Saver

After you are in Settings>Wireless & Networks>Wi-Fi Settings you need to hit the Menu button on the phone to bring up the "Scan" and "Advanced" options.

Thanks, didnt even realize that menu was there... There is to many hidden menus to know sometimes.. :smileyvery-happy:  I will play with some of the advance settings to understand what they do...  I wonder if this option may effect the 3G connection entering sleep state also since the radios are interconnected..... Hmmm, food for thought.

Thanks Again for the information...
