Hello bcool:
I'm sure the looping issue is very frustrating. I would like to add to Ed's suggestion. In order to enable Safe Mode on an Android device, the phone has to be powered off, so I would suggest removing the battery and reinsert, just do not power the device back on. Then once the device is totally off, press and hold down the Power button only until the second HTC logo appears, then release. Then hold all 3 buttons , Volume - Down, Menu and Optical joystick, all at same time while the device powers up until you see the words "Safe Mode" in bottom left corner of the screen.
These steps should work for you. I've included this link for steps with screen shots.

Maybe it's not so relevant but I've had the exact same issue with one of the old VZ phones in 2006. When it was turning on it never got home screen. Instead, it kept on rebooting. Had to get a new phone.

My wife's phone had the same issue when the 2.2 OTA installed itself on the phone. The phone just continued to reboot over and over. We took the battery out over night, and I was able to get back into the phone, but we never could get it to connect to the internet, and we could put nothing on the home screen.
Took it in to a VZW store and they ordered a replacement phone.

Sounds like you had the same issue I did after I did a master reset, I could not get OTA activation to populate the internal settings correctly. It took me three days and some help from Azsaluki to manually enter the correct in to get the device back up and running. The store was useless.

I had an accident with my Incredible last night. Left it sitting in rice overnight and it worked fine this morning. Then the battery wouldnt hold a charge. Went to the Verizon store, bout the "Expensive" Battery (The only one in stock- lol) put it in my phone and it worked beautifully. Within 2 hours the phone started rebooting itself and is now in this continuous loop. The phone is not hot or warm to the touch nor is the brand new battery. I tried taking it out for 10 minutes and it still reboots. I had never had any problems with my Incredible before this incident. Help!

You may have a corrupted app or an app conflict.
If you go into safe mode and the issue disappears it is an app issue and you may be able to fix by deleting the most recent add ons.
If in safe mode you still have reboots, you will have to do a Master/factory reset.

Thank you for feedback. Here are the steps for booting your Droid Incredible into safe mode:
1. Power the Droid Incredible off.
2. Press the Power button to turn it back on.
3. At the second HTC Logo screen, press and hold the Volume Down, Menu and the Optical pad at the same time.
Start the Droid Incredible in Safe Mode. This will load the original settings and software for troubleshooting purposes.
4. Keep holding all 3 buttons until the device fully boots and you see Safe Mode in the lower-left part of the screen.

I am having the same problem.
Ed, I wish your solution/advice was applicable but because it's looping, it doesn't repsond to powering off.
So, I tried holding the volume down, menu, and optical button at the same time and nothing happened.
Suggestion?

I had the same problems with a replacement phone.
Was working fine as i was adding apps to it. setting up a social media app and began rebooting in a loop.
I ended up doing a factory reset but still rebooted in loop.
rebooted in safe mode and activated phone and is working fine now...

The Safe Mode solution did not work for my Incredible. Six apps did automatic updates, then my phone crashed. It's been stuck in a boot loop ever since. Are there any other solutions? Or will I have to replace my phone?

Hi ToniBWOLF,
I feel your pain. I would be frustrated if my phone rebooted constantly. As indicated by budone (thanks!) a Factory Reset is the next troubleshooting step that may resolve your phone's concerns. If the Factory Reset does not resolve your phone's concerns you may need to replace the phone. For details about the Certified Like New Replacement program process please visit this LINK.

This HAS to be a software update issue. We have 2 Incredible 1's. This happened to both phones at the same time. We replaced the battery AND the phone for one of them and the new one started looping last night. I'd like my $50 back for the battery and we'd like 2 phones that don't wake us up in the middle of the night.

I just received the following today:
Hello Keith,
My name is Nathan and I can definitely understand your concern regarding the software update. I know the importance of having a phone that works correctly and want to make sure we can resolve your issue. It would be my pleasure to assist you with your HTC Droid Incredible.
After some research, you are not the only one having this problem! It is a known issue that other customers are experiencing since the software update went through. Updates are designed to improve functionality of your phone, but sometimes bring problems that were not expected. Power cycling repeatedly around 2:00 AM appears to be an on going issue with 4.08.605.15. HTC is aware of the issue and a new software update will resolve the problem. As you stated, a hard reset did not help. This will bring the phone back to factory settings, based on other customers having the same issue this is the only thing to fix your phone from power cycling randomly. I want to make sure the reset was done correctly, please follow these steps:
1. From the home screen, select the “applications tab”
2. Select “Settings”
3. Select “SD & phone storage”
4. From the person data section, select “Factory data reset”
5. Select the appropriate option: “Reset phone”
6. Select “Erase everything”
7. *This will erase everything on your phone*
8. Once this is completed, you will need to re-activate your phone
Although you have tried this previously, this is the only fix at the moment. You will not be upgrade eligible until 11/16/2012. If you have another phone you would like to activate in the meantime, that is definitely an option. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Customer Service at (800) 922-0204 preferably from a different phone.
I appreciate you taking the time to contact Verizon Wireless. Your business is truly valued and thank you for your continued loyalty. I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer!
Sincerely,
Nathan
