My humble opinion about Droid X vs Droid Incredible

I had a chance to try out a Droid Incredibile for three days. I prefer the Droid X for several reasons:

On the X I can place any phone contact on any screen and use either a widget or an apps. With the Incredible you are limited to "favorites" only and limited to nine. I see no way to set up another "favorite" on another screen..

You are limited to what widgets you can set up on your Incredible. It must be a completely blank screen or else such widgets as FM radio will not go on.

Sadly, the Incredible does not have Swype, which I use all the time on my X.

You can not set up vibration only for notifications. You can only wake up your Incredible by tapping the power button, with the Droid, you can also tap the home button to wake it up.

Finally, On the X, if you are on the very left screen and wish to go to the very right screen, you swipe and tap on the three buttons and your there. On the Incredible, you must swipe the whole way.

None of these are very big deals, I grant you. But they are minor irritants

Oh, don't get me wrong, there are things I wish the X could do like the Incredible. For example, the lock bar is so much easier on the Incredible to open up. The manner in which you delete a widget/apps from the screen is so much more easier on the Incredible than on the X.

As far as bars, and this IS a big deal. With the X I get 3g and four bars at home. with the Incredible, I get 3g and only two bars. Gladly, it doesn't interfere with calling or talking.

With the HTC Incredible, not really, especially widgets. Most of them, widgets, that is, will not fit onto any screen which has something already on it. Swiping from screen to screen can not be changed. The number of bars can not be changed. So, yes, some of these may be changed with a little tweeking, but not most of them.

What makes you think you are tied to the sense ui? Have a look at launcher pro, you can get many widgets ant the ability to resize them.

You can place shortcuts on any screen to about anything, including a contact. You don't have to use the Favorites widget.

Only a few widgets are full screen size. Some of them offer two different sizes.

You can get the Swype beta for Incredible.

Vibration only for notifications: Goto Volume in Sound Settings and turn the volume all the way down for notifications. Make sure the Vibrate option is on.

Wake up button: Correct, and I like that way. The "home button" or any other front button is too easily pressed while in a holdster or pocket.

Moving to another screen: Pinch zoom any home screen to see minature versions of all screens to pick from.

Besides the above, is there anything else you like better on the X? How does the camera and camcorder operation compare? And the resulting photos/video? Does the size of the screen really make a difference? I'm asking because I just got the Incredible, but have 30 days to switch to the X if I want.

I picked up on the pinching screen to see all my screens. I also picked up on a few more tidbits. Helps to flip thru the electronic manual. As for camera/camcorder, they are almost equal, however, I really believe that the Incredible takes a slightly better picture/video. As for screen size. Truthfully, I really found no difference. True, the Incredible is slighly smaller, but it still does an excellant job with both pictures and videos. One thing I really like about the Incredible is you don't just have seven screens, but a multiple of seven screens. For example, It starts you with a Social Setting of seven screens, a Work setting of seven screens, etc. they call them "Scenes." I also believe that unlocking the Incredible is much easier than on the X. In short, I'm starting to enjoy my HTC Droid Incredible, and that, in itself, is incredible.

Good to know on the pictures/video. How about battery life?

The "Scenes" are just different pre-laid out home screens. You can also save your own, so you really could have an unlimited number of them.

After Froyo I would switch to an incredible in a heart beat. The X just is too broken after Motorola and Verizon crippled it with a sloppy update.

To answer jmadren about battery life, here, I really believe that the X has it over the Incredible. With the X, I had to recharge it once a day, even with heavy usage. I find myself recharging the Incredible twice, and sometimes even three times a day. As for screens, I noticed that and set up my own personal screens. As for the full-screen widgets that I would like, yup, I set up a scene just for those widgets and aptly called it Widget scene.

What did you think of the two screens in terms of viewing in direct sunlight?

Truthfully, on the screens in sunlight, they are about equal. Both are extremely hard to see in bright sunlight. But then again, I have never had a cell phone that you could really see well in direct sunlight. I had a Blackberry that was miserable to see. Here is my own personal score, and remember, these are my scores and nobody has to agree with me.

Amount of space (number of screens)...Incredible

Easy to see in sunlight...equal

Ease of finding information about the phone (help)....Droid X

Camera/Camcorder...Incredible

Gallery usage...Droid X. I personally don't care too much for the gallery in the Incredible.

Number of Widgets available...Droid X. Seems that HTC only like a few widgets. With the Droid X you have a number of Motorola Widgets and a number of Android Widgets.
