My phone stopped rotating

Hi,

I dunno why this happens. But my phone will just stop rotating (with auto rotate checked on). If I check mail it will stay sideways. Then it will rotate back on home screen. I have pulled the battery, I have recalibrated it. The only thing that works is resetting it. I am really getting annoyed resetting it so often and reinstalling everything then setting up the accounts of everything I reinstall. Anyone have any information as to why this happens and what I can do to fix it that is a little more convenient then resetting it to factory? Example is I restarted everything was north and south. I turn it sideways and it stays sideways.

Addition.

forgot to mention. When I leave current app and go to the next. Say I go from email to Navigation the navigation will be and stay sideways also.

The demo Dinc at the Verizon store I go to doesn't rotate either and hasn't since they upgraded it to Froyo. On the other hand, another demo at another store doesn't seem to have that problem. All I know is, if i get one of these, it's gonna have Froyo already ON it stock from the factory, I'm not gonna mess with these upgrade hassles and nightmares.

Sometimes I have to 'shake' the phone side to side to get the auto orientation to work.

Had the same problem - after the phone was updated to Android 2.2. Verizon replaced unit, but almost as bad. Try (thanks to another forum) tilting the phone forward (top down towards you) while holding in portrait position... or adding that forward dip as you rotate from landscape to portrait. Seems to work almost every time. Not as smooth as in original op system, but acceptable..once you learn the trick. Good luck...
