Navigation dropping off

I just purchased a Motorola Droid X and (generally) love it. I also purchased the optional windshield mount to make the GPS function easily viewable as I use GPS quite a bit.  I was looking forward to having the Droid replace my Garmin GPS.  However, I have encountered a problem. Specifically, after having set my desired destination, navigation commences and functions just fine for a minute or two.  Then, navigation will randomly drop off and the droid screen reverts to the Car Dock display.  After several seconds, the navigation icon will re-appear in the top functions menu.  To reactiviate the navigation display, I then need to "pull down" the top menu and press the navigation app from the drop down menu to get the navigation screen to reappear.  This occurs approximately every 2-5 minutes with no discernable pattern.  Although navigation does pick up where it left off once reactivated, the necessity of continually having to manually reactive it renders it effectively useless.

Is this a known and universal issue or is this a problem unique to my unit?  Help!

I am having the same issue going to go to Verizon and see what the deal is tonight. Did you do the update from yesterday yet?

I called Verizon about this 2 days ago, and they transferred me to Motorola.

The Motorola rep practically completed my sentence: "I love my new phone, but when it's on the car doc, and I'm using Google Nav..." "it goes back to the car dock home screen? I am sorry sir, this is a known issue that we are addressing"

She seemed confident that a fix would be out very shortly... "by the end of the month" to quote her...

Just updated.  We'll see if that helps.

I had to manually update.  Is there a system preference where I can set updates to occur automatically?  If not, is it automatic and I'm just not aware of it?  Curious as to why I had to go looking for it.

Mine was doing the same thing. I contacted Verizon Wireless and they suggested I take the battery out of the device while it is on for at least 10 seconds, then power it back on. He said this would reset the phone. It seems to have fixed the problem for now. I will report back later in the next few days after I've run a few routes with it...

I have not had a problem with Navigation as of yet.  I have used the Nav, on two ocassions, one of which was for over an hour of time and it performed flawlessly.  I was using the phone in the car dock but not plugged into power.   I actually like the way it performs over my Garmin but the sound can be difficult to hear.

As a side note, on the box it says you can use the audio cable to listen to music from the X on car speakers.  I have not tried this, but I have been able to plug the audio cable into the X and the AUX port in my car and listen to the Navigation prompts and phone call conversation through the car speakers.  This with pressing the Home button twice to launch voice commands makes for easy calling on the go.
