Need advice about deciding on getting the Droid X in a few months or beginning of next year?

so ive been reading reviews and posts for the last few days and all im getting is a headache. at some points the Droid X seems great, and then it falls short.

i know it depends on the person and such but i really need to know if Droid X is what i need and will not give me much problems.

i have a nokia e71 business phone and i use alot of the apps on that for college and i would like the Droid X to be its replacement.

so is there any extreme problems with the Droid X or the software that has not been fixed already or is it just spurts of problems in certain places in the world? is there anything that needs to be considered before getting a Droid X? Woudl you suggest another one of the other Droid phones?

thanks for the help

i love my x the web is great on it 3g or wifi, tons of good apps in the market free and paid, my advice wait verizon is supposed to have a ton of new and lte devices with nicer processors coming up at the end of the year and beginning of 2011, but the x is outstanding they keyboard is great i was scared about an all touch phone but give it a day and its like 2nd nature, at first you'll suck the battery dry using apps and playing with the phone but soon you calm down and you'll sit back and say "i love this thing" and trust me android is top notch not as shiny and fancy as ios but tops it for sure. as with all phones some people posting here get bad devices but the majority dont and my biggest issue is the media player (pics, videos, music) is just isnt that nice but it does work and there are apps for nicer ones but this is an outstanding device.

We'll I've done a few researches and every major company has their flagship phones, let's name them

Verizon -Motorola Droids

AT&T - Apple iphones

Tmobile - Googles MyTouch

Sprint - HTC Imagio

Now I can tell you about the pros and cons but I'll be here all day.  So I'll tell you the facts since I've previously had phone services for all these major companies, I'll start from the worst to the best in my humble opinion as far as service, network and quality of the calls go.

Tmobile and AT&T I believe are tied when it comes to service, network and quality of calls, they are about the same when you use their networks, horrible connection and very bad 3g speeds, I can't even tell you how many dropped calls and slow to non service 3g problems I've had with them.

Sprint although their 3g, and now even faster 4g network they have in the works, is very fast, I would say the best in the business right now, they still lack call qualities.  Their service is about the same with AT&T and Tmobile.

Verizon to me has superior call quality, never have I experienced a more clear, crisp conversations, they rarely drop any call, and conversations hardly go in and out and sound choppy.  I mean it happens but once in a blue moon.  Secondly, their 3g network is not bad either, not as fast as Sprint but it's up there.  Much better than AT&T and Tmobile.

Now as far as the phones go, your going to have to do your research, but I own a droid X now and in my hands, is one sturdy, nicely built piece of equipment.  It doesn't hold battery life so good but from doing my own research, all these phones have the same problem, why you ask? because they all come with very powerful processors and I believe the company that comes up with the best battery saving smartphone will win this war lol.  In my honest opinion though, they are all good phones, but I'm sticking to Verizon because they simply have the best service out there.  And there customer service representatives are so intune with the customers needs.  This is simply my experience with them, some maybe different.  So at the end it's really your call, but to answer your question about the Droid X, yes I believe it will do its job, depending if your on the Verizon network, and yes within minutes when the Android 2.2 OS came live, many people were having problems but that's on Motorola's end. I believe, eventually like everything else, there will be a fix for it.  You can't expect it to functioning fully within a day of it coming out could you? I already am seeing post that some are not having any problems with it anymore.  Still,  I'm playing it safe and using 2.1 until I actually see a confirmation from the company that made it says 2.2 is good to go.  Until then, I hope I answered all your questions, I understand for you, these phones are like your little best friend and you want to get the best little friend you possibly can, I'm the same way lol, good luck!

I too was holding off on installing 2.2, but I finally decided to take the plunge. The installation was easy and my Droid X is running without a glitch.

The Droid X is a very sound device.  I would keep my eyes on it and if something better pops up before you buy re-evaluate it then.

There is a lot of talk about the 3G 4G etc.  4G is simply a name thrown out to the media, VZW is calling their future service LTE meaning something like "Long Term Evolution."  With that said, if you read up on some of the sites that have disassembled the Droid X to the nuts, and bolts on both the Hardware and Software level, they explain that the Radio that the Droid X uses is indeed compatible with this "4G" or "LTE" service.

What many people don't know is that the so called 4G that Sprint is rolling out right now is simply a faster 3G.  Tmobile currently has the fastest 3G called 3G+ which reaches speeds up to 3mbps.  Sprint's advertised 4G has been clocked at 2.4-2.7mbps in ideal coverage areas.

With all that said:  Yes the Droid X is an excellent phone choice.  Motorola has a history of standing behind it's devices unlike companies like Samsung and HTC.  HTC seems to release a new phone every 2-3 months and forget about supporting the existing phones.

I'm sure there will be a bigger and better phone by 1st Quarter 2011, but who knows if it will suit your needs.

CRB, the only issue I see with this is that more than one Verizon tech-type has told me that the new LTE phones will use a SIM card of some sort. There appears to be no provision in the Droid X for a SIM card.

I have not asked these guys specifically about the LTE capabilities of the X, I'll try to run them down soon and ask. But the lack of space for a SIM card leaves the Droid X incapable of LTE operation, regardless of the radio's capability.

There is certainly one way to find out....wait and see....:smileyvery-happy:

I don't see Verizon switching to the Sim card format exclusively.  The Sim card has been exclusive to the GSM signal and I do not see VZW adding GSM towers across the US when it already has CDMA towers covering.  I can see future phones being Global phones which support both GSM and CDMA and including a sim card slot, after all this is already in effect on several phones which VZW offered in the past.

If you read the info from https://www.lte.vzw.com/AboutLTE/VerizonWirelessLTENetwork/tabid/6003/Default.aspx  it explains that the LTE or 4G service will integrate with EVDO Rev A.  Simply put,  if your phone has EVDO Rev A. capabilities, which the X does, you will see 4G speeds.  It further explains that the goal of LTE is to provide seamless global use of LTE devices.  So with that said, yes I can see an actual branded "LTE Device" having both CDMA and GSM support as past Global phone models have.

So in short, is the Droid X capable of 4G speeds?  Yes.  Is it capable of Global use? No.  So no it will not fit into the LTE model line-up, but yes you will get 4G speeds.   I kinda circled the tree a few times but does that make sense?

This is inaccurate.  LTE technology is a SIM based model and while many 4G (LTE) devices will be backward compatible with 3G service, the flow will not work in the other direction.  This means the X will not be able to utilize 4G speeds.  This will be a one way bridge so to speak with 4G compatible with 3G but not the other way around.  Hope this helps.

i have seen things that agree with the last few posts EXCEPT...i was told that once lte is up the new bandwith with lighten the 3g load and 3g will see improvement not a true lte upgrade but better overall performance not im not saying if you live in a crappy 3g area you will get coverage im saying if you get the same signal and signal reliability just improved speeds.

lol did some one say sprints flag ship was htc imagio lol um ok robimon because they dont sell the evo4g which is pretty hot on the heels of the droid x

does sprint even sell the imagio?

In short, you are wrong.   You are confusing my points.  The LTE platform is going to be Global phones (cdma and GSM) with 4G.  As I mentioned before the Droid X has a radio and hardware to handle 4G.  You have to keep in mind that LTE and 4G are not the same thing, LTE is a philosophy as to using global phones that are 4G capable, the other is simply faster data rates.
