me and my wife tried this and it surely work, this is how you send your phone contacts to your google gmail account.......
STEP 1: well i simply went to the "people" app and then tapped menu and import/export, then i hit export to sd card and tapped "phone"... not the google account.....
STEP 2: after that go back and click "import" from sd card and tap your "gmail" account........hope this helps
