New Number

I have moved from NM to LA and need to get a local number. The local Verizon rep said I will lose all my apps when they do this. Is that true?

Huh? If you have a DROID Incredible (I'm assuming so since you posted in the Dinc section), changing your phone number wouldn't affect your applications on the phone. Apps purchased from the Market are tied to your Google/gmail account.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

WOW.... You can do it yourself online. But you need to change your billing address and then change your service address to LA. (Changing just your billing address will not work) Then after a day or so, you can log in and change your number to a LA number.

I changed both address a couple weeks ago, however I don't think the system has caught up. When I go in and try to change the number it only give me the option to use the NM prefix. I guess I will go back to the Verizon store and see if I can find someone that really knows how to do this.

I think someone was mis-informed. The employee, not you. I am glad you thought to double check the information with another source.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but could a person change their number online through the My Verizon?

@Smzar
I hope you can get it figured out. The last time I had to change my number required calling in to customer service. They canceled my contract and started a new two year contract all without any ETF fees. However that was over eight years ago, so I am sure policies have changed.
