I'm very interested in picking up a Droid X. Have what are probably a couple of noob question for ya. Can I use itues to download movies and music to the Droid? I've done quite a bit of searching on the internet and haven't found an answer. Also, I'd like to use the device to download and play full lenght movies for trips and such. Is there a site I can go to with a wide variety of movies to chose from?Doesn't look like Verizon Markeplace has that. I know about Blockbuster, but I'm talking about just going to a site and downloading the movie to the Droid X (or to my computer first then transferring, if need be).Thanks.

iTunes movies will not play on Droid X do to copyrights but therehas been reports of ways to transfer music files on the market.

There isnt any sites to download movies legally other than the Hollywood Video App preinstalled on device that I know of.

The best way to have movies on you Droid X probally would be for you to check out a application called DVD Catalyst that can convert your personally owned dvds to files to work on your device... A number of Droid X owners seem to use this software without issues.

Thanks for the info.
I've read about being able to transfer itues music over to Droid X. Do you know if you can do that with movies purchased off itues as well?
<Edit> Just noticed that you already mentioned that itues movies can't be transferred over.

I bought "DVD Catalyst 3" for like $10 .... I'm assuming you're talking about making copies of DVDs you own to play on your DROID X for trips ... I do this - works great.

Yes, I would like to make copies of certain DVDs I have, but I'd also like to be able to download movies from a place like itues. Doesn't seem like there's much in the way of downloadable movie content for the Droid. Making me re-think my decision. If I'm out and about and want to see a movie, I'd like to go to an online source and be able to download it.
I do lots of camping and backpacking trips, so streaming movies through Blockbuster won't always be option when I want to see a movie. I'd like them either saved from copies of DVDs I currently own, or be able to download them to be played back whenever I want (out in the middle of nowhere or not).
I had pretty much made up my mind I was going with the X, but downloadable movie content is kind of important to me.
Hmm...

Will DVD Catalyst allow me to copy any DVD I purchase? Or will I run across copyright issues trying to copy certain movies?
Thanks.

AnyDVD will for sure, but it will not format it for you.
Something you may want to look at instead is a streaming server such as Playon. While not out yet, they are currently working on an Android app.

DVD Catalyst will work just fine but due to site rules discussing bypassing copyrights on forum is frowned on and not allowed (Just warning before Moderator locks post) and as for iTunes videos being used on Droid X, this is not possible because of the file being MPV (Copyrighted Video) and will not allow to play on ant device but registered device of owner that bought and downloaded file.

What other phone out there will do what the OP is asking the X to do with regard to the movies?
Lemme guess....iPhone.

Yeah, the iPhone, but I really don't want to go that route. I like most of the features on the X. Plus, I don't think you can change the battery on the go with the iPhone, as you can with the X. If I'm out backpacking, that's kind of a big deal if I run out of battery life. I'm still leaning in the direction of the X over iPhone; just wish there was more d/l stuff.

The whole issue is how Apple choose to control there device and applications, as well as the restrictions they have placed on the media that is bought from them.. All of what you want to do is possible but you just have to go about getting data from other source. A large number of sites that allows video and music download will carry similar restrictions.... It isn't difficult to convert videos to be optimized for the Droid X because I do it all the time and all of my music collection is loaded to Windows Media Player that allows me to create play list and transfer music to device without issue.
You seem to have a similar habit like many others, they are focusing on having the iTunes experience, until you explore other options you will continue to run back and forth. Adding music and videos isn't as complicated as it seems. I prefer buying my own dvd and make my own digital copy instead of being forced to only watch video on device.

YES .... and this is not a copyright issue .... it simply converts your DVD to a file for your phone.. Takes about 2-3 hours to convert and a typical 2 hour movie sucks up about 1 GB of SD Card space.

Thanks, folks. Well, the info given takes care of most of my concerns. From what I've read, I like the features on the X more than the iPhone, so I think I'm just going to go that route, then take the advice given here.
Thanks again.
