Has anyone tried this app?
http://us.norton.com/smartphone-security-android/
It's available in the Android marlet for free. .
It says you can remotely wipe you info from phone should it be lost or stolen.... But I was wondering if anyone had tried it and had any feedback
Thanks,

Personally anything from Norton is worthless. I wouldn't put Norton on my computer let alone my phone

I am sorry to say this but I agree, ANYTHING NORTON is useless, if you want a app that allows a remote wipe do a search of the Market, there is a number of them on the market, I dont use any of them to suggest any good ones. Search for "Remote Wipe" and you will see a number of them to pick from..

Yup! Norton is free for the time being because its a beta. Once they put it on the market, I bet it will be pricey. I use an app called "lookout" which does do a wipe, plus gives a location of where the phone is. It is free.

Ok, here's my thoughts...
I have used Norton AntiVirus on my computers starting way back around 2000-2002. (None on my phones yet, however) I will admit that it may have slowed my machines years ago, but lately, the last couple years at least, I have been using their internet security (2009 and 2010) and I haven't noticed any slowdown at all. Now this could be by design or possibly because my latest machines have had really fast CPU's. (My latest has an i7 quad core processor) I would think it would be hard to bog down these processors. In reality, it's probably some of both, design by Norton and superfast CPU's.
Everyone seams to have good things to say about Lookout. Like "It seams to be working, and it doesn't slow my Droid". My thoughts are it's good app as far as it goes. Has anyone had it catch or stop a worm/trojan/virus trying to invade or attack their phone? Now, I suppose it's possible none have tried but with the number Android OS's being activated worldwide in excess of 175,000 per DAY, I do believe the day is coming when this will be a problem.
One thing I like about the Norton mobile security product is it says it updates the virus definitions once a week. Going back to my computers "Internet Security 2010", it has automatic live updates and pulse updates every 5-15 minutes. This means that if a new virus is discovered, Norton pushes the definition to me and I have the ability to block/remove/stop it in my computer no more than 15 minutes after Norton writes the definition of this latest threat. This update feature is not mentioned anywhere in any information about Lookout. Not that I would expect definition updates for Lookout because it's free and that kind of constant updating costs money. That's why I would expect the Norton Mobile Security product to be sold (when it gets out of beta) on a yearly subscription service. (Just FYI, my Norton Internet Security 2011 upgrade for my PC will cost $69.95, and this includes a 1 year subscription to live update for upto 3 PC's)
Apparently no one one this forum has actually tried the Norton product. They have downloaded Lookout however. Heck, it's free. Yeah, I know the Norton beta product is free too, but it seams to be burdened with Nortons reputation from years ago. Another FYI... ("Norton internet security 360 2010" was PC Magazines "Editors Choice" for your PC internet security needs)
I'm not a big fan of beta products, I have enough trouble with non-beta products. That's why I won't try IE9 (but that's another topic) I also do not and never have worked for Symantec or Google or Verizon. I'm a semi-retired business owner living in Hawaii. I may have to take the plunge and try both Lookout and Norton Mobile Security. But I'll have to think about it.
Really like my "X" though. Best smartphone I've ever had.

Sometimes I wonder how many peeps actually try a product before they say it's bad. Do you guys TRY ANYTHING or do you just jump on the "it sucks" bandwagon to be one of the cool kids?
I have been using Norton for years; from when it was the separate Antivirus and Internet Security, to the 360 I currently have installed. I have never gotten anything but help and safety when it comes to Norton. I pay for it and they protect up to three PCs, and once you are up for renewal (like I am Oct 14th) they will notify you via email and even give you the recurring payment option.
I also feel confident with storing both credit card and other information within Norton's Identity Safe as it fills out pages for me and remembers all my logins and their corresponding passwords. It constantly scans in the background, tells me when webpages are unsafe, shows me if something is trying to gain access to my machine, and blocks any and all attacks without my permission which is great.
None of my machines have ever been slow with Norton. It does what it has to do and does it well and I will continue using Norton until they decide to not make Antivirus protection anymore.
dirkbonn, thank you for telling me about this product. I will check out the beta and you can be sure I will buy it once the full version is released. I too love my Droid X and will do anything to protect it. Norton has been good to my PCs and I know they will be good to my phone. Ignore the people who never try anything but always shoot it down.
As for IE9, it's better to wait lol. I installed it and while it was good up to a point, some features were extremely annoying.

Actually this statement is a closed minded statement, Norton has been in Beta stages for a bit and I have gave it run through and I just wasn't impressed, I don't just make opinion without researching the software some and I was opening the door for discussing anti-virus applications in general. A number of individuals are comfortable with Norton is fine but to close your mind to other options is one sided.... And for the record Kaspersky has entered the Beta stages of their apps but on the corporate level and I was just stating I am waiting for the release into the market, my job may be getting there hands on it soon enough.
Dont accuse someone of not considering or trying something if you are going to follow the same pattern... Well I will leave you to your Norton..
My statement was just as I stated my opinion and as for the article that you posted is fine but once again that is their techs opinion of apps, all techs are known to be bias to curtain products that influence them to place their views of a curtain app, so forgive me if I don't except everything someone post if I can test this result for myself.... I can search other sites and I can find another source that will say a totally different opinion or the apps used in the sites test.. Here you go, http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/ , dont mean nothing to me but just prove that you can find a number of sites that will tell you anything.
Dont be so closed minded.. You want Norton to be the top one, and you choose to get worked up when someone has a different view. I think its funny how you post on a forum that is made to voice view but so many are prepared to close their mind to informational suggestions..
By rhe way did you notice your article is over a year old, it was posted Jan, 2009?

Hey Wild, I didn't think I was being closed minded. My purpose in starting this thread was just trying to gather opinions and information regarding the Norton mobile beta that I found at the Market. I haven't tried or even downloaded the Norton beta so I'm certainly not trying to convince anyone to use one product over the next. I just pointed out that PC World, (a respected computer magazine) had rated the computer version of Internet Security at the top. (and yeah, I noticed that it was from Jan. '09) If you remember, I also said that just because PC World picked their computer security suite #1 didn't necessarily mean the Mobile security app would rank the same.
And for the record, I'm really not "worked up".... again, just tryin' to get opinions and info about phone security apps. Since it appears you're possibly connected to software testing or something like that, please don't hesitate to keep me/us posted on information you gather regarding this topic.

Please do not take my post earlier personal because I did not mean anything (Just had one of those days and makes it clear I need to stay off my pc that time of morning
), my main post was just to give feedback but my post did somewhat judgmental. Norton has experienced a number of performance issues and had a tendency to leave open security vulnerabilities that has made me view them in negative light, during the time that I tested the build of Norton Mobile I noticed similar performance issues, granted this was a first level beta release and the app may improve more as things go along and also at this point there isn't very many verified viruses in the wild to push against any android anti-virus apps to really draw a conclusion. I will have to download it again add see if this build has made any noticeable improvements,

I've used various Norton products for the past ten or fifteen years and have been quite satisfied with them. I'm presently running Norton Internet Security 2010 on several PCs and couldn't be more satisfied.
When Symantec's Smartphone Security For Android app comes out of beta, l'll probably download it since there are too many bad guys out there and smartphones are becoming increasingly attractive targets for viruses, trojans, worms, rootkits, etc. It seems to have been in beta a long time though.
They've had versions out for the Windows Mobile and Symbian (Nokia and other smartphones) operating systems since 2007.

Personally I am waiting for Kaspersky get into the Android game, I have used Kaspersky for some while side by side with Norton and I have virus test desk that i bench test my antivirus apps with and I am sorry, Norton did not make the grade because it missed some of the more destuctive viruses that made me have to reload the system completely where Kaspersky held strong and maybe missed some of the miner viruses, I will take that as a result in my book..

Hey Wild, I don't have any problem with what you use. Obviously most of us don't have virus test benches and have to go on what we can read and research. Here's the review from PC World.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/158157/top_internet_security_suites_paying_for_protection.html
As you can see they tested many security suites and many people are buying and using all of them. Otherwise they be out of business for lack of sales.
I'm just asking about the Norton mobile security in this thread because they have a beta out for testing. Hopefully, like you said, Kaspersky and others will get into the mobile security business. Competition most always leads to better products at competitive prices.
Also, just because Norton makes (this is my opinion now) a decent internet security product for PC's, doesn't guarantee they'll have a decent mobile security product. I guess that's part of the reason I started this thread.
Just a question cuz I'm curious, if you tested on your bench, the Norton product today with the latest updates, does it now catch those destructive viruses you mentioned in your post, or does it still miss them?
Best of luck to us all with the best phone available today, the Droid X.

I suggest you install it and try it. It's pretty cool but I haven't managed to set up any blocked calls or sms but I'll just mess with a couple of pals to see how it works.

Count me as another satisfied Norton user, though for a while I agree, they weren't as good as they seem to be now. I have had no issues and am very satisfied with my Norton Internet Security. With regard to the Norton Mobile Security (beta), if anyone has tried it, does it also have the Identity Safe feature?
