The set of "Notification ringtones" on my Motorola Droid X do not ring long enough. When an message is received, I need a long "ringing" ringtone, not just a little "blurp" from the ones listed in the menu of the "Notification ringtones". The "Phone ringtones" are nice becasue they ring for many seconds...not just a second or two for any of the "Notification ringtones".
Can you choose a "Phone ringtone" for a incoming message? If not, how do you download a new "Notification ringtone" that rings for a longer period?

Hmm. This is odd. I find that the notification tones are TOO long. I prefer a very short tone, as I almost always have my phone near enough to me to hear it.
As another poster said, there are many apps for different notification tones. I've tried Zedge, and there are quite a few good ones on there, but nothing short enough to my liking. You might find something you like on it, though.
ALSO, you might want to take your phone number off your profile. We can see it.

Maybe I should have asked...how to you tell a ringtone application that you want to load a new ring tone to the "notification ringtone" list? I have downloaded serveral ringtones from Ringlert and Ringo Lite but they never appear in my phone ringtone or notification ringtone lists.

Hi Kimsgsca,
Thank you to the community for your responses and suggestions! I would like to add to them for some additional comments. If you have not put the ringtones in their own folder, using the steps from Ann154 (Thank you Ann154!), you are still able to set the ringtone for calls and messages. Once a ringtone has been downloaded using an Android Market application, to set it as a ringtone for calls/messages, please follow these steps:
INCOMING CALL DEFAULT RINGTONE
Press Menu
Press Sound
Press Phone Ringtone
A pop-up box will appear, asking which application you would like to choose your ringtone from (you mentioned Ringlert and Ringo Lite in your last posting, and Zedge was also mentioned)-choose from that list ( I do not recommend checking the "Use by Default for this action" button)
You will be given the list of ringtones downloaded from that particular application-select the ringtone you want and press OK.
INCOMING TEXT/PICTURE MESSAGE RINGTONE
Press your Messaging icon from the home screen
Press Menu
Press Messaging Settings
Press Select Ringtone
Choose from the applications you have downloaded
Select the ringtone
Save your selection (this varies depending on the application you selected)
I hope you find this information helpful. Have a good day!

You can move the MP3 (ringtone) files to the following folder structure and the android system will automatically add the tones to the ringtone selection list. You can use your computer file explorer to create and move the files. You can also use a file explorer application on your phone. Astro or Estrongs are some of the more well known file explorer Apps.
SDcard drive:/media/audio/ringtones
SDcard drive:/media/audio/notifications
SDcard drive:/media/audio/alarms
I have also had go luck with using Ringdroid to set the notification tones.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.
