Notification ringtones not working

I have the Droid 2 Global by Motorola i have had it for a few months now and all of the sudden the notification ringtones will not work for my text massages but will work for my email. Is there any other solution besides a hard reset? i have uninstalled the apps that i downloaded the ringtones from and they still did not work even the ringtones that are already on the phone do not work. What do i do?

Copy files to SD Card / Media / Audio / Notifications and then restart.and set notificarion with instruction below..

Text Messages

Messaging >Left Menu Button > Message Settings > Text Messaging > Scroll to notification area of list........  All these control all SMS and MMS accounts
