Odd Ringtone Problem

I experienced an odd ringtone problem yesterday.  I have set some MP3s I have transferred to the phone s the ringtones associated with a couple of specific people - all of them have worked successfully at least once.  Yesterday I heard a tone I couldn't identify for an incoming call from one person I had assigned a custom ringtone.  I was surprised, dealt with the phone call and then later looked at the settings for that contact entry.  On the main contact screen under ringtone it showed "Unknown", but then when I opened up the window to select the ringtone, the list contained the Ringtone I had originally selected, and in that list it showed it s selected.  However, going back to the summary screen for the contact still shoed it as unknown.

I used the file manager to confirm the mp3 file was still on the device (it was) and could play through the media player (it did).  I restarted the phone, checked the contact entry again, nothing had changed - it still showed the ringtone as unknown.  I was in the middle of other things, put the phone aside for about 8 hours - it was just on and used very lightly during that time.  Last night when I went back to the contact details to try and figure this out, the ringtone was correctly listed and now works fine.

Seems odd.

Same thing happened to me, I spent a lot of time assigning ringtones, now they are all "unknown" and have a strange tone as a ringer.

had similar experience after reactivating phone. have to do that frequently since droid isn't global I have to switch phones. The rebooting is a real pain and time drain:smileymad:

I saw another problem in this area this morning.  I received a call from a contact I have not assigned a specific ringtone to.  However, when it ran, it played a tone I have assigned to one specific person - not the ringtone I have set for the phone in general.  Again I checked the settings, everything seemed fine as far as the settings were concerned, but the wrong ringtone played.

I put excessive time into assighning identifying ringtones and decided it was a waste of time after all the posts about this problem. I am running out of my trial period for droid2. I like this phone. Just not sure if im willing wait it out like I did with the original droid bluetooth problem and it never got fixed.

When assigning mp3s as ringtones be sure that the shuffle setting is off. This feature can interfere with the way ringtones are assigned.  I hope this tip helps.

Shuffle setting from what, a playlist?

Why would that affect ringtones?

My ringtones aren't even in the same folder as the rest of my music and I periodically have the incorrect ringtone play for a contact.

This is very interesting. Does shuffle have to be off during the time you are assigning ringtones? Or can you just not use shuffle and assign you music as ring tones at all?

Would love additional details if you have them. Thanks.
