Oh, noooo....screen?

My X's screen started doing something funny this afternoon.

When I press on the screen to open a function page, link, etc., I see a funny "swirling" effect near the center of the screen similar to what happens when you press on an LCD computer screen. It's not been a problem so far, just slighly distracting.

I hope it's not a sign of worse things to come. This phone has been so good to me, especially considering I bought out on the first day they were available. I don't usually get an emotional attachment to my toys, but I would hate to give to give up this particular phone.

Obviously, if it gets worse, il have to take it in for exchange. I was just curious if anyone else has seen this.

And I can't swear that the screen hasn't been doing this all along. I just never noticed it until today.

Which extended battery are you using and with what battery cover? I ask because I had a employee buy the extended battery and used the original cover instead of the one that came with battery (That will work well with the smaller 1840mAHLi–Ion extended battery) but the pins that holding the cover was bent a little more than normal and this caused excessive pressure on the back of the screen that caused this issue.... If this sounds like your issue try either using the cover that came with battery or pry the pins out a little so the cover will not be pushing on the battery to much and this should resolve your issue.

Another important thing that you need to consider... the longer this issue continue the more chance of more problems down the road...

Put my Droid thru the mill, but so no swirling effect. Hope you don't have to exchange your phone. I imagine you tried everything from taking out the battery to doing a hard reset. Good luck.

No, I haven't tried any of that yet as I'm on a show today and have only a few moments at a time to peruse the forum.

One thing that occurred to me is that just this morning, I installed and charged my new extended battery. Shortly thereafter, I began to notice the screen swirling thing.

I would think that this would be a hardware/screen thing and not a strange software reaction to screen input. Having said that, I've seen hard resets solve much weirder issues than this, so I certainly won't rule it out... :smileyhappy:

And I meant to add that I've no idea if there's a connection between the new extended battery and this, I just mentioned it in passing.

Well, in a word...EEEEK!!

I just pulled off the ORIGINAL cover and will replace it with THE ONE THAT SOMEONE MUCH SMARTER THAN ME INTENDED TO BE USED WITH THE EXTENDED BATTERY as soon as I get home.

Mort, just fyi, rather than typing a whole new post to correct your mistake, just edit your original post. I think they allow you about 60 minutes to do this.

In the upper right corner click on "Options" I believe the top one is edit.

If mortb was typing that post from the mobile view, there is no way to edit the post without changing the view to Full. To be honest the last time I tried to use the full view to create a post my phone wouldn't let me type in the text box. Not sure if it works on other phones though.

I came in last night and replaced the original battery cover with the one that came with extended battery (from the Verizon site).

I use the 2-piece holster and phone cover combo that are designed to go together. Now the cover fits a little tighter, which is not a terribly big deal, but it fits into the holster somewhat tighter now. That causes me some concern over the pressure on the screen that started this thread in the first place.

I believe I can solve this pretty easily. Now where IS that Dremel moto-tool?.... :smileyvery-happy:

Since the back of the X is fully enclosed while in the cover, I'm not certain that I could just leave the battery cover off alltogether. Except for dusty conditions.....Hmmmm, not my first choice, for certain.

You may be correct about full and mobile view. I always use full.

Here's something to try when creating a post on your phone. In the upper left corner you'll see "Rich Text, HTML, & Preview" It defaults to Rich Text. Click on HTML and see if it'll let you type in the box. That's what I have to do when posting from my Droid X.

This is one of the few reasons I am hoping Opera Mobile heys released soon. The beta seem to handle the pages better. I just hope the optimized the zoom animation soon.
