P.D. {word filter avoidance}

Dear verizon,

Do you know what PD{word filter avoidance} stands for? Poorly Designed Piece of **bleep**.... excuse my language. I, (fairly) recently, purchased a Droid X (refurb),  i was surprised at how cheap it was going for, only $100? while a brand new one was $500. Well after I got the phone I now realize why it was selling for so cheap.

The phone has gotten progressively worse since I first rcvd it. The thing is slow, the apps constantly malfunction, the phone has its good days and bad days where sometimes it will randonly restart.

I love that the camera is 8mp, but what good is it if the apps  dont function properly.

The battery that came with the phone...sucked. Lasted half a day- not even. I bought another battery that is supposed to last at least a day, and it does for the most part. But thats only when the phone isnt malfunctioning like crazy. why didnt the phone just come with the longer lasting battery? (common sense... they just want your money)

Honestly the phone has impressed me to a certain degree, but im beginning to hate everything about it... it's appearance is just down right ugly. It's big and bulky, compared to other smart phones this Droid X is the ugliest phone ive ever seen. I have an Ipod Touch Fourth Gen that operates better than this thing,

I looked long and hard for someone to complain to. I called the customer service hotline and they said I would have to troubleshoot the problems with a tech. I am very very sorry that I bought this PD{word filter avoidance}... Verizon, Please send me a less **bleep**ty phone for my money?

Thanks for listening

Oh where to start on this one.....

First off, you put your phone number in your device info for your profile even though there is a warning telling you not to.

With that in mind, I'd imagine you haven't read anything about how to use your phone or anything like that.  You also didn't read the Terms of Use that you agreed to inorder to post on this site.  Otherwise you'd know you can't circumvent the language filter.

When you purchase a refurbished device at a discount, you must realize there is a chance it could have an unknown issue.  However with your current track record, I'd point more at the issue being with yourself than with the device.

ok, first off why do you give a *** if im unhappy with the stupid phone to begin with? You didnt have to read my thread nor respond. Did you make the phone? I read up on the refurb terms and it pretty much assured me it would be okay, otherwise why would they sell it? I wanted to vent/complain...its a forum.

Ok, second off, what make you think anyone on this forum gives a *** if you're unhappy with your phone?  Remember, this is a peer to peer help forum. (Some members read all posts just because they want to help)

If you just want to vent, go to an Apple forum, I have a feeling they would just love your rant/vent!

I believe there is a limit of one CPO device per line per 12 months.

With that said, your issues sound like they are ALL caused by specific apps you are downloading. Have you tried deleting all the apps, and then re-downloading them one by one? I bet you'll find the problem one(s) and your phone will work fine.

Well, is it still under warranty? If you would tell us what malfunctions you are having with your phone, maybe someone could help you and attempt to answer your questions.

No doubt bad apps are at the core of your phone's issues. That is a quality issue with apps in the Android Market (NOT Verizon or Motorola's faults), something that is improving. Get an iphone and pay $1.99 for the same apps that are free in the Android Market, but that's another discussion altogether. "Refurbished" doesn't mean that it was sitting on a table at a garage sale. The phones are tested. Have you tried performing a factory reset and wiping the phone clean of any apps that could have corrupted the O.S.? Sorry, that is the troubleshooting part that you mentioned. This is an electronic device, not a cup of mocha mint java that you are unhappy with and whining about because it didn't come with enough crunched nuts on top. In regards to the Droid X's appearance, did you even ONCE see the phone before you bought it? It is BIG by design. You want to squint at a display the size of a wristwatch, 99% of the other phones on the market ARE smaller. That's not rocket science, that's called not having your head firmly in the area that you normally sit (no edit needed this time).

Totally agree with you there, droidsw! LOL

@Gerio

Love what you did with the fonts colors there.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

@ and @:

I have not tried whiping the phone, however it seems like it would be painful to do so, maybe I will look into how to do it. Unless you maybe know how to?

How do you know when an app is bad? I think I have fairly good judgement when downloading apps. But ok, maybe I have downloaded one or two retarded apps and maybe it screwed up my phone. I have no idea....

@:

I got the phone only a few months ago, Im not sure what the warranty terms are. However I will try to look it up asap.

The phone randomly restarts and is extremely slow. Especially during text messaging (typing) or when opening apps. I can live with the apperance of the phone, whatever. I just want it to function normally. It drives me effing crazy when its slow. I once tried to change the phones theme and that royally messed it up. (maybe you could tell me why that would mess it up?)

OH and when unlocking the phone, the unlock slide button is jerky. (you know how when you have to slide over the button to unlock the phone?) It slowly jerks and so does the sound button slider. I know its not really a big deal but it is pretty annoying and I could never figure out why it did that. It did that from day one out of the box. The live wallpapers seem to make the phone run slow, but i guess its not perfect and I cant expect it to be. which  knda sucks.

...I know this isnt a big deal but something I noticed is: in the Preview for changing the theme of the phone it would show  the status bar (the bar at the top with the icons that shows signal and date) changed with the theme.

well when downloading/installing different themes this did not change, the bar remained the same. I dont know if any of what im saying makes any sense. basically changing the phones theme made the phone act weird and left the status bar as it orginally was.

There are other things that annoy me about the phone but I cant do anything to change them...Sometimes the orientation gets messed up when i turn the phone sideways....or itll get stuck that way or the icons get moved around. and then it gets confused like its gonna have a seizure or something. (lol, im an epileptic...so its funny)

it looks like the buttons at the bottom of the phone have stopped illuminating now. Or no, my mistake they work. It just ocasionally stops working here and there. but whatever...

Thanks for listening. If you can help me i'll appreciate it. If you can someway help me get the thing replaced I would be even more grateful. If you can somehow tell me how to get rid of the thing and get Verizon to give me an iPhone instead... I will come to your house and kiss your feet. 🙂

14 Days return policy and you normally receive a new replacement within 14 Days but after the 14 days you are stuvk in contract and all replacement devices will be a refurbish device.

Research how a Task Killer works and consider getting Advance Task Killer.

The slides may not be lagging like you think, the lock slider has a pause about half the way across when sliding, I perfer WidgetLocker as my lock screen over the stock..

The top status bar is embedded into the root directory and no theme that you install can access these files, so there isnt any way to edit these files without taking a chance of voiding your warranty of your device as well as breaching TOS.

I use a app called Smart Rotation that works well for me on my device.

https://market.android.com/details?id=net.xdevelop.rotator_t&feature=search_result

it looks like the buttons at the bottom of the phone have stopped illuminating now. Or no, my mistake they work. It just ocasionally stops working here and there. but whatever...

The phone buttons respond to the light sensor on the device and at times the buttons do not light because it detects that there is enough light to see the function information for buttons also it times out to save nattery light when light isnt needed.

If you are still under the 14 day return policy you have the option to return device and change into another device but if you are after the allowed time there isnt much that can be done to guarantee the option to return device.

Smiley Sad  I will take yr advice on  some of the apps you mentioned. theres no way verizon will replace the phone for me? even just give me a new droid x? I guess the phone needs to be broken in order for that to happen? Id  really like to  have the iphone but i have to pay full retail price right? There isnty any way Verizon could give me a deal on an iphone?

Both of those issues reallly REALLY sound like you have an APP that is basically running away with the CPU on the phone. Did you install any WIDGETS on your screens? Like Facebook, twitter, etc? I had a very similar "lag" when unlocking (swiping) my screen to wake it up - took like 10 secs. to respond causing APPS to launch that I inadvteredly pressed duing the wake-up process. Very frustrating. After about 2 weeks of trouble shooting, I found that it was the FACEBOOK widget causing the problem. I deleted it and my phone is once again very very snappy. So you might want to delete any Widgets that you loaded that are "auto updating" - just to see if by doing so fixes the proiblem. But do this 1 at a time and test for a while. If you delete all of them, you won't know which one caused the problem.

Are you using the native/stock Launcher? or did you install something like ADW or LPP ?  LPP has a Setting to turn OFF the auto-rotate for the HOME screen. I did this on my phone and it really works well now. (However, It still allows auto-rotate for the various APPs, like Gallery videos, web, etc.)

I do have like maybe one or two widgets on my phone, the google search bar that was already installed on the phone (that always malfunctions when typing into the bar,) and this weather widget I guess I can uninstall, it seems harmless tho. not only that but I love to use the camera but I cant seem to find an app that doesnt malfunction or has a strange interface. I use Vignette which i paid like $4-$5 dollars for. I'm a photographer... I like to bea ble to press the button take a snap shot quickly. But I cant seem to do that....at all. The app offers some pretty awesome photo effects, but what good is it if they dont function...or become unresponsive. Ive had to force close several applications, or the phone has asked me to do so due to freezing of the phone or an application. I have an ipod touch that offers many camera apps (some that are significantly more awesome than droid market apps). Ive recently tried to clean up the phone of some apps and stuff. but i havent noticed a significant change in how it operates. Sometimes when texting the phone will slow down to almost a halt. I'll be typing and it wont pick it up until like 5 second later. when I ipen up my gallery it either stops or doesnt show my "camera roll" I cant select it I cant touch it to open it...i have to restart to do that. this happens pretty often. the speed of the phone really disappoints me. I dont know if they are all like that or if its just becayse this is a refurb.

Well, have you tried the RESET procedure above?  Otherwise, maybe you should just contact Verizon as Rob (Verizon employee) outlined above and just get a replacement. But  It won't be a new one since it's > 14 days.

I also use Vignette, and am a Photographer as well.  This phone is NOT a professional camera. One of the features I am disappointed in, but I didn't buy it as a DSLR ...  It takes decent pics in bright light. But as you mentioned, is not "fast" in responding.

Good luck.

Hi photogrrrl,

Sorry to learn your phone has frozen. Although it is past the 14-day period of replacing your phone with a new one or returning it, you do have the one-year manufacturer's warranty. This allows a replacement option for up to 12 months from the date of purchase. If your phone continues to show these issues even after troubleshooting the applications as the community recommended, please don't hesitate to contact us to discuss replacement options.

Also, since this 14-day period has expired, you would be asked to pay the full retail cost of an iPhone (or any other device) if that is the path you choose to take.

Thanks,

who should I contact? because at this point, i'm pretty fed up with the non responsiveness of the phone and jerking lagging of certain apps, the slowness of the phone loading photos and such. I really think that if you guys just sent me a replacement all of my problems would be solved. I prob have to pay the deductible im assuming. but i guess im willing to do that. Just let me know exatcly what I have to do?
