DITTO ... will run HOT when on GPS & NAV ... get a Card Dock (like Gomadic on Amazon) that monts over your Car vent. Works great and keeps the CPU very cool.

My "X" get very warm when using GPS. I was just using it today in my car and the temp went fairly quickly to 42C. Right now the phone is laying on my desk and has been for the last hour. Now the temp on the phone is 30C.
Right now the room temperature here in Hawaii 25-26C.
Does anyone have an idea what the temp of the phone would have to be to be considered overheated?

Mine always gets warm when the GPS is on. I have the Motorola car dock and it charges while I'm using the GPS. It has always gotten warm though, my old Droid 2 did the same thing. I think it's an OS thing.

My phone gets warm when using the GPS in the car dock. This has happened since I bought it on launch day (Before Froyo). It seems to get a little warmer after Gingerbread, but its also summer here and the phone gets pretty warm (38-41C) during my hour long drive to/from work. When I use the speedometer, the temps stay cooler.
When you are using GPS, you are not only proccess lots of data through the display, but also using the CDMA radio quite a bit. If/when Google gets their act together and allow downloading of routes/maps to navigate with, you will see the tempetures go down. Until then, prolong use of GPS will warm the phone up.
In the winter, the phone is cooler.
Its normal for a computer processor to get warm during heavy use. Gingerbread does use more processor power than Froyo, so the phone is warmer than it was with Froyo. Nature of the beast.
