Having problem with my Motorla Droid whereby POP email account hangs on downloading new messages. Says it is downloading but doesn't. What fixes it is powering down phone and powering on again. Gmail does not have this problem.
Separatley, I sure hope later versions have delete all functionality for email. My Blackberry had that.

As I'm sitting here watching this painfully boring Steelers game (hockey is so, so much better...), I came across this "fix." Take out your battery for a few minutes. Try it again. It worked for me. For now... This cannot be a regular thing, though...

I'm having the same issue. I did the battery swap out once or twice, but that got old. I finally downloaded Toggle Setting and have been killing the email process every time I find it hanging. That seems to do the trick for a short while, but then it'll eventually start up again.
It's a little annoying to be honest. If there are 2 things these phones should be able to do it's - make phone calls and retrieve emails. Phone calls have been good so far, but I'm far from pleased with the quality of the email.
Anyone know if this is an Android Bug, Verizon firewall issue or something else?
Z.

Same Problem. It gets hung up connecting to the incoming POP server. Occasionally comes back for a while if you wait long enough. The only way to force recovery is hard reset.
Just waiting for a bug fix...

This, thank goodness, is not one of the problems I have. The DROID email client has worked flawlessly for me with my astound.net email account, which I use more than anything on my smart phone. It would never work on the Treo.

Same issue here. Woke up to no emails and had to do a battery pull. I think turning it off and on will also work.
They do need a fix for this it's a pain.

What email client are you all using for POP3 email?
Is your POP3 account on personal/company web servers?

I use Comcast POP and Godaddy POP and One other one for a business...
So it's a universal issue.

Hey Rjones,
I have Astound as well, but having a hell of a time setting up my email. I put in the POP3 settings according to astound; mail.ca.astound.net / smtp.ca.astound.net but it's not working. Can you tell me if you are using the same settings? Thanks, I would appreciate your help.

Using a Droid and same problem here. GMail fine, Pop mail doesn't retrieve every X minutes as it is configured to do. If I go into email and hit refresh, it gets emails, but refuses to pull email on schedule as designed to. Hello Verizon, where is your response to this obvious problem? Why have forums if you choose to ignore them?

I upgraded to a Droid a week ago under my New Every Two. My primary email account (POP) is with Comcast and I also have Gmail. I had, and am still having, the same problem with non-retrieval from My Comcast account. I did the power off - power on, and that fixed the problem for awhile, but after a short time the problem resurfaced. I was then able to retrieve email for an additional short period using the Refresh Command. Now, it's back to "Loading Messages" but none appear. I had to set Comcast to forward all my email to the Gmail account, but this, of course, entails extra work and leaves identical messages on two accounts. I've also discovered that Gmail won't, for some reason, open formatted MS Word attachments. I get a message box that says: 'Quickoffice - File Cannot Be Opened". Is this possibly another Verizon email issue? I don't have any of these email problems with my iPod Touch. I'm still well within my 30 day cancellation period and, as a long time Mac user, am starting to wonder if I should have jumped ship to AT&T and the iPhone.

Having the same problem, and Verizon tech support tonight told me that POP email just doesn't work well on the Droid. Would've been nice to know before I spent 90 minutes in the Verizon store getting it set up as an upgrade from a Blackberry.
This is a pretty huge problem to have in a product on launch. Could it be Verizon was pushing to have it out for Christmas shopping season and just let a lot of bad stuff go??
HEY VERIZON, WHERE"S THE FIX FOR THIS??????

Go to the marketplace and download K-9 Mail. It will handle all of your needs perfectly. I have 5 POP accounts including comcast and godaddy working perfectly. It's heads and above superior to the Droid mail program that comes with it.
I changed the Droid mail to check "never" in case they upgrade it so it's worth turning back on.
My K-9 Mail can check every minute, 5 minutes, etc.. it works flawlessly and trust me you will be delighted with it.
It's free.

Since we are on an Android Platform I would imagine that you will end up using third party apps for nearly everything. K-9 keeps doing updates and is terrific.
