POP3 Can Receive Email, but Can't Respond

I have a Droid X and my email account is set up. I can receive emails, but I can't respond without receiving an error message. I've spoken with Motorola a number of times and they are not able to fix the problem. I've even tried setting up the account so that it is pushed through Gmail, but it doesn't working. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

 

I'm very dissappointed in this, having spent money on a phone that is not doing what it is made to do. Please advice.

what kind of an email account is it? Either one of two things is happening: either your outbound SMTP server settings are incorrect or your provider does not allow you to relay messages. I am thinking a configuration issue, but more information is definitely needed to verify the correct settings.

It is a work email account through a small host. I've called them to ask if they might have any suggestions since my email goes through them, but they responded by saying "they don't handle mobile connection issues when it comes to email and I should speak with my provider." I'm typing in the server and ports provided through outlook, but it doesn't work. My ports read 110 and 25.

I should also add that there a people within my company that have blackberries and palms, and they don't have problems recieving or responding to emails.

Sorry, I don't use Business email and have no clue of the settings required for that ....  I'm sure there are people here that DO however ..

 

Can anyone else help out here??

That 25 doesn't sound right. Please give us the name of your server and we can give you the correct settings. But we need the name of your email server.

I'm having the same issue... actually one of our clients is. Once the issue was reported I setup an email address on our server then tried adding that address to my DroidX. I had the same results as our customer reported; can receive messages fine but cannot send, reply or forward.

 

I have been searching the internet and thought I had the solution... on one of the droid forums a member said the solution was to use the gmail smtp server; smtp.gmail.com. This requires use of your gmail email address & password. Technically - it does allow you to send, etc BUT the recipient sees your gmail address as the sender - not the POP3 address you want them to see!

 

Does ANYONE have a solution that does not involve downloading another third-party app? I take that back - if you know of a good third-party solution, NOT Yahoo, gmail, etc. let me know. Really hoping we don't have to go to that extreme.

 

I will voice the same sentiments so many others have expressed:   I HAD A BLACKBERRY BEFORE AND THIS WAS NOT A PROBLEM!!!!!!

First - Blackberry have about a 6 year headstart on Android for mobile email..... and they do things differently than everyone else. :smileyvery-happy:

 

Second - Problems with not being able to send, is in the setup and settings....

 

We need more information before we can try to help.

 

Do you use Microsoft Exchange or a different email platform?

 

If you use Exchange, do you have ActiveSync setup for outside the network ie Activesync exposed through OWA? If so, one program that works quite well is Touchdown by NitroDesk. This program is very good/stable/works well with Exchange servers.

 

If using another email server program/platform, is there a setting somewhere to expose other ports for outside the network? A lot of email server programs (I don't know them all, but the ones that I have a little knowledge on, do not allow connections to ports 110 and 25 outside of the LAN).

 

Its just a matter of figuring out which settings work.

Not using Exchange. Just sendmail on an apache web server. SMTP has to be setup for the platform/provider email is sending from; Verizon/Blackberry (vzw.blackberry.net), AT&T, Comcast, etc. Verizon has been no help at all. I've played with port # and the only that worked was using the gmail SMTP server.

 

Our client does not want her gmail address exposed to customers when she sends or replies to email from her Droid.

Business email accounts uses different port and authentications on a mobile device than a desktop because of all the access points it has to communicate to before connecting to the server, you IT administrator should be able to give you the working settings but sounds like they choose not and without the correct information you may not be able to access the server directly, you may be able to access it through Touchdown from the market but without network settings it is unsure.

 

One more thing you need to concider with Blackberry, they kind of cheat to simplify the email experiance because all account information if distributed from a dedicated email client server that can translate the date from a Microsoft server and make it usable for the device and then transmits and reverse on sending...  So many thinks it a point to point tranaction but it has a number of things happening in the background to make it happen and Android hasnt got to that level YET....

Don't be disappointed ...  it has to be some sort of setting that is wrong because there are many MANY of us that have email working just fine.  I have my email going both ways using Yahoo Mail. So let's see what you problem might be ..

 

-  Which EMAIL App are you using?

-  Are you using GMAIL? or are your Pullling/Pushing Email through YAHOO Mail or something else?

- If you're using Yahoo Mail, just click on SETTINGS and check to see what "Mail Delivery" option is set. Do you have "PUSH" Selected?

-  Is this Business email from a Company server (e.g., Exchange)?

 

Let's start there.

my pop3 cox works both ways. 

probably something in login, password, smtp server settings, authenticate & secure, whether neither, both, or 1 of them.

cox, 465 & 995, both auth & secure

i'd suggest going to isp website for setup, as too many items on various internet sites show incorrect settings, as was the case with cox.
