My husband and I are due for new phones. He really wants the Casio Ravine, and I want the Thunderbolt.

We both have had the LG ENV's for the past 2 years.
The Ravine has a push to talk feature that the Thunderbolt does not have.
I have found an app to download for android push to talk.
If we get these phones, and I get the app, will we be able to use this "walkie-talkie" feature, phone to phone?

We have never had this feature before, but are very excited about it as an option. I want to make sure we will be able to use it with these 2 phones.

I cannot seem to find much information about this on the forum. Thank you!

On a Difrent Subject You are Planing to get the T-bolt wich is a GREAT phone (Dispite a few bugs along the way) and i highly recomend it BUt if you are up for a new phone you might want to take a look at the Droid Bionic. The size is about the same except a bit thiner, it will be sporting a dual core proceser, and I coudl be mistaken on this but it shoudl come with Ginger Bread Pre Instaled. The main reaosn im sugesting you take a look at the Bionic is because the T-Bolts battery life is not the greatest and is it's bigest down fall. Ther are things you can do to help but in the end it's still a major problem with a phone you will proably have a hard time putting down and if your charger is not handy... the Bionic from every thing im reading and seeing reported buy people that have got there hands on it early and have been reviewing it has a MUCH improved battery life. i dont' know the actualy price on the bionic but it's rummered to be $299 wich woudl be about $50 more then the T-Bolt (if you get it from Verizon). So it will coast a bit more I sugest you look at all the smart phoen options befor you grab any phone and go into the local VZW store and use the phones on display and get a feel for them. The Droid 3 is a great phone as well but is only a 3G phone but might suit your needs as well.

i'll be curious to see the bionic's battery life in real world use. i just don't see how it could have a much better life with the hrdware it's packing (specifically a dual core processor). it does look great, but i prefer Sense to Motoblur. i do agree though, that you may want to wait a couple of months. the bionic and possibly the htc vigor and maybe even a new samsung (and of course, the iPhone5) may all be released in the next 2-3 months. it's a bit crazy, but all of the new androids will have improved hardware and software over the ones that aren't even 6 months old now.

I believe (and I could be wrong, haven't personally tried it) that the app only works between android phones with the app installed.  Normally, PTT phones use a different part of the network, and I'm not sure the app accesses that... after reading the market page (I'm assuming here that you are referring to TIKL), it uses the data connection and, while it doesn't seem to explicitly state it, I would certaintly assume both parties need the app installed.

But if they are sharing the same network, don't you think it would work?
Yes, I am referring to the android download app you mentioned.

Having never had a smartphone like this one before, we will be new to the app market. That one is the only one I found. It is a cool function to use without getting your glasses out to dial a number on your phone when you're getting older and need glasses to see what you are doing on these phones.

Thanks for your reply!

I don't think it even matters that they are on the same carrier, just that both phones have the TiKL app installed (there is mention of an iPhone version).  Best I can figure is that the app connects to a server from both ends and the connection phone-to-phone runs through that.

i tend to agree with demmo. i believe you can only ptt with other TIKL users. also, is the ravine even a smart phone? i would think you would need a data plan on it even if it were possible? i really don't know though. you have three days to return them without a restocking fee so you could always test it.

i know it's not what you are really trying to accomplish, but on touch speed dial is nearly as good as PTT. push one button and call your hubby. i actually created a shortcut on my main homescreen to call my wife. the icon is her picture and i just touch it and it dials her phone.

Again im not trying to convice you not to get the T-bolt or to get the Bionic but you said this will be your first smart phone and the T-bolts battery life can be a nasty suprise even to people that have had several smart phones. Ther are plenty of great sites with reviews www.phonescoop.com is a great site just to name one. but ther are several.

As for the AP you def have to both have the AP for it to work you might want to have your husband get a smart phoen as well this would mean 2 data plans (VZW has yet to coem out with the Family Data plane they promised) ther are quite a few good smart phones out ther that are not as big as the T-bolt and the other 4G phones and this woudl alow you to do the push to talk as well as Skyp video mesaging if you both have the Camera for it. The Droid 3 and the Incredibale have this the T-bolt dose as well but the Camera will not work with out the Gingerbread update, if you are excited about push to talk imagin doing Video Calls...
