Phone is always roaming, and no incoming calls/texts are being recived

I turned on my phone (HTC Incredible 2) last night and I had no 3G connection and the phone kept saying it wanted to switch to global mode and start roaming, which was the only way I could send calls. I can't recieve anything, and I haven't even tried with any other numbers besides *228. The phone can connect to internet through wifi, but still can't recieve calls or texts.

I had done a factory restore the other day. Please help!

It has fixed itself by now, the bars are just not showing up, it is no longer a problem for now.

You have done both the reprogramming and updated your roaming list through *228?

Is the mobile network turned on? Go to settings > wireless & networks > mobile networks row > check on the mobile network

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

If you are speaking about option 2 on *228 that does nothing but update roaming capabilities. If you are not roaming it will not help.  I have never seen any change after updating the PRL

firstbas, the steps provided by the community to check your mobile networks are the best steps to ensure your connectivity is working. I will list them again below for your convenience. Once you check your connection, power cycle your device for 1-2 minutes to perform a soft reset. Please let us know if this worked because we may have to perform additional trouble shooting.

  1. From a home screen, select the applications tab (located in the lower left).
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Wireless & networks.
  4. Select Mobile network.
Note Enabled when a check mark is present.

Dialing *228, option 1 will reprogram the phone to the Verizon Wireless network including what features the phone is assigned to use. If the data portion of the provisioning failed, repeating the programming should help correct it. If not, time to call customer service from a different phone.

The option 2 updates the PRL (Preferred Roaming List). I have seen a major difference in updating the PRL. I have seen the number of the PRL change and I have seen service change. In my area they had to convert the Alltel towers into Verizon towers. While they were doing that, I drive through one area quite frequently. Before the merger, the service was always full bars. Suddenly one day it changed to reflect on my phone as ROAMING. I usually never see roaming in my area. I went to the store to see if a blended PRL on phone would help. It did. I had the full bars back.

A co-worker also saw improvement in his phone service by updating regularly the PRL through the tower conversion period.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

*228 applied to your special set of circumstances.  It is not a cureall for increasing signal problems when not roaming as customer sevice would have you believe.  I have faithfully updated my PRL for many years and have never seen a micro iota of change in my signal.  Of course living in the NY area as I do new PRLs  wouldn't.

Thanks to the community for your responses

That is very frustrating to have a device always roaming. I would be glad to help. I hate how always roaming also drains the battery Are you still experiencing this issue? Are there any other VZW devices in the area or household also having this issue? Did this start after an application was downloaded? Please repost and we will further troubleshoot the device.

Thank you
