Phone powers on, screen is dim/unreadable

I'm messaging this forum to vent my frustration with the Droid X...

I cannot remember a specific instance in which my phone sustained water damage or was even more wet than moderate condensation.

That being said- my Droid X phone, about 8 months old, will no longer power up properly. The phone maintains function 100%, except for the screen being way too dim/almost black. I can only faintly see characters in the brightest of light, with my phone held at the right angle.

I recently went to a Verizon store to inquire about solutions/replacements... It seems that since I DO NOT have insurance on the phone, and SOMEHOW the inside moisture detector (red dot next to battery) has been turned red as opposed to its usual white, I am NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY.

My options are:

1) Pay 400 dollars for a new phone (No affordable or reasonably priced.)

2) Mail my phone in, and be sent a new, warranty covered phone from Verizon. IF the technical advisors find damage to my phone, however, I must pay $400 dollars for my new device, or send that back in as well (and thus have no phone).

Note that I have recently relocated across the United States, and do NOT have other Verizon phones handy.

Previous to this situation, I have had several other occurrences of my battery being extremely weak, and my "Back" (Reverse arrow) key on the front of the device not working at all or consistently.

I'm close to the point of cancelling my service from the company, and advising other friends/relatives to do so as well. I've become quite frustrated, despite my being 100% honest and forthcoming with store employees.

You know, it really sounds like you have a hardware issue going on .. for whatever happened ... I've read threads that basically said what you're experieincing with verizon -- that is, if that "tag"under the battery turns color, indicating Moisture (water damage), they won't do anything for you and the blame goes on you ...  unfortunately.

Does the screen behave the same way if you boot into SAFE MODE?  Just to rule out any 3rd part app that may have introduced the issue???

good luck....

Unfortunately, those moisture sensors seem overly... sensitive.  On my phone, I noticed it was starting to turn slightly, even though it had not been wet.  I did have to get it replaced and had no issue, though I didn't go in store.  I've seen some reports of them changing color after being around too much humidity.

That kind of bites :smileymad: i looked at the Tab on the battery an on the X if its the Tab on your battery changing color I'd buy another batttery thru customer service an you might try even if its the phone Tab doing it thru CS aswell tell them what you told us on here your screen is going bad an you need a replacement. See what goes.  An its possible if the phone was in hi moister area's an if the back cover was'nt down on it Tight it could've cause it to turn. Still thats a bad Deal  B33
