Photos saving with size of 0.0 after update

Is any one else having problems with their pictures saving, after applying the update?

I can take a picture and it looks like it is saving to my phone, but when I try to open it from the camera application, it shows an icon of a mountain and the file size is 0.  I have tried opening it from the gallery - same issue.  I have copied my pics to my pc - when I try to view it from my PC, the file opens to a blank file in paint.  I have cleared my camera data from my phone, but still will not save a newly taken pic successfully.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Try clearing the Media Storage and Gallery data also..

I'm having the same EXACT problem! I was thinking my SD card was full, but when you look at the properties, it's 3/4 of the way empty! If I delete a few pics, it will save a couple. but once I get to a certain point, no more are saved and i get that gray square icon like you're getting. If you find out ANY answers, please, please e-mail me at sherryroberts100@gmail.com

Thank you!

Thank you all for your responses. I appreciate the time you take to help out our fellow community members.

@Gigi105,

I researched this and did not find it to be a reported known issue. Try removing and reinserting the SD card in the phone while the phone is off and then power on.  Re-test and see if this helps.

If it is still not saving the pictures you are taking then you may need to perform a hard reset. Visit the following link to steps http://bit.ly/oV4Meh.

Keep me posted if you are still having any issues after performing the above steps.

I have been having this same camera issue for over a month.  The only fix is rebooting my phone.  But I'm still not able to open the photos I took that resulted in the "grey mountain square" icon.  I'm able to see them in the thumbnail view though.  I've also tried downloading another camera app, but it has the same issue, so I think it's a techincal issue not software.

I'm on phone number 4 in just over a year..I'm ANNOYED!!

I have tried rebooting...removing the sd card....force closing the camera and then restarting. These actions will only work for a few hours...then when I attempt to start the camera...I get a message that says something like "Oops the camera cannot be started". I then have to go through the same process again. Very frustrating. Verizon tech says there is not a known issue. Hmmmmm

Exactly! But there's "no known issue?" WTH? If there wasn't a known issue, then you wouldn't be seeing all of these posts! Duh!

I agree --   obviously, there is a "known" issue with the recent update to the photo gallery..   I really do NOT like the new update.

FIRST:  I can NOT size the photos to save them anymore.

SECOND:  Droid arranges them into some unknown "folders" which basically means I can not locate anything anymore.

Bummer --   I do NOT like the update.

I have the same issue here.  It started maybe 2 months ago.  But, the problem occurs with not just the photos, it is any data on the SD card.  That include downloaded podcasts, Minecraft saved games, Music, playlists, etc.  I tried restarting the phone, remove & replace the SD card, using a new SD card, reformatting and reloading the data, reformatting but starting over with new data, etc.  I back up the phone's data to my computer every few days, so wiping the data and replacing it is mostly a huge inconvenience. I have only permanently lost a dozen or so pictures and videos, when I wasn't able to get them off the phone before the SD-card-failure problem hit me.

None of these solutions I have tried work for more than a few hours, and once the phone thinks the data is gone, it is gone even when the phone is able to read the SD card again.  I already replaced the phone via the warranty, due to other issues, so that is not an option for 6 more months.

The Verizon store had no solutions to offer, other than a new phone at full price.

Hmmm, I'm sad to see this post chain. I'm also having the same problem with pics not saving properly. I take the picture, it shows on the screen, but then does not save to the gallery. When I go to scroll through the picture gallery, I see only a generic gray icon, and when I look in the DCIM folder I see a 0.0 mg jpg. If I try to open this jpg, it says it's been "truncated". This has happened several times over the past two months, but the biggest bummer was last night. I was at the hospital to see my new Godson and took a couple of perfect shots. Now they're gone!!! So it seems nobody here has heard any tips to retrieving those truncated files.

I also find it curious that Verizon is saying it's not a known problem, when clearly there's a bunch of people here that know about it!  Smiley Sad

I've been having the same problem for the past few months. It is very frustrating...I take a picture and sometimes it takes but most times I get that stupid grey mountain icon. I have lost a few really good pictures and I am getting pretty upset over all of this.

JohnB_VZW - Can you please look into this issue again?  There are too many people having the same issues as me, for there to NOT be a PROBLEM!  You can no longer say there is "no known issue", because you have read the original post.

My phone is still behaving the same way.  Hard reset, powering off and back on, removing SD card and reinserting it, using a different SD card, force closing the camera then restarting it again, removing all pictures from the SD card, NOTHING has changed the behavior of the camera and saving pictures.  I can usually take one or two pictures before I get the grey mountain picture, with a 0.0 size file in the gallery or on the SD card.  The picture appears to have taken and then saved (it shows in the small square window in the upper right hand corner of the screen), but then if you click on the small square to view the picture, it displays as the gray mountain icon.  The DCIM folder will contain a 0.0 mg jpg file.  When an attempt is made to open the file, an error appears saying that the image has been truncated.  Several times a day, when I access my camera, I get a message that says something like  "Oops the camera cannot be started".  I then have to go through the same process of restarting, removing SD card, etc again.

PLEASE ADVISE!!

Thank you!

Verizon Support,

Judging by all the comments on this thread and several others both with Verizon and on other sites.  How can this not be a known issue?  My wife and I have been dealing with this for months now.  The only fix that sometimes works is to turn off the phone and then turn back on.  Take the pics and get them uploaded somewhere quick....   It would be very helpful if we ( the droid X community) could actually get a solution.

Please assist.

Won't doing a hard reset loose all pictures, etc. on the phone?   I also read where it was thought that Draw Something caused the problem.  Several removed that game from their phone, but that was not the fix either.

Same issue since the most recent update. This update also causes sounds issues with my phone. I take a picture and after it saves my phone says the file is empty. I am really frustrated with my phone. It cost way tool much for these issues.

This is the same problem I have been having, but it is inconsistent.  The other day the camera functioned pretty normally but then today I can't take not one picture that saved properly until the phone was rebooted.  This has happened to me several times.

I posted earlier in this chain, because I'm having the same issue. I also called Verizon and was told it's not a "Known Issue", and I did all the suggested fixes, short of a hard reset.

So, I went to the Verizon kiosk in Costco this weekend and the technician there knew what I was going to ask as soon as I said "camera". He told me he has people coming in with this same problem all the time. It is a known issue, and has come about because of the latest updates on the phone, but there is no plan to fix it because this is now an older phone. So, basically, we live with it or we uprade the phone.

Totally sucks.
