Powered down the Droid 2 for the first time in months, now features won't work

I powered the phone down for the first time in months to charge it.  After an hour, I tried powering it back up while still plugged in.  At first, it wouldn't turn on, and only displayed the motorola 'M', freezing that way.  I finally got it on after a few tries, but some features will not work, most importantly, the home button on the phone.  The bluetooth will not connect to the car (though it still connects to the ear piece) and the default lock will not work (requiring the finger slide).  My ring/text tones reset, but I was able to get that resolved...  If I do a factory reset, do I lose all the downloaded apps and settings?  Any suggestions?

You'll lose settings. For apps it depends. Most of the ones that you purchase get tagged by your Google account and will automatically download to your phone again after you reset. Those that are free you can just download again.

For me the biggest pain isn't the apps, but all of the custom notifications, log ins, etcetera. After you've done it a couple times you get used to it (as sad as that is to say).

One more thing... if you haven't already, before doing a reset try a battery pull to see if that clears things up for you. It is a much less drastic step and as strange as it sounds can actually fix some problems.

So, I guess the only way to get the 'home' button and the bluetooth back working correctly is performing the factory reset?

It sounds like everything went bad at once.  Have you tried the master reset? If so did it fix your issue with the back button and home button not working?  Have you also tried pulling the battery like jasnmar suggested?  If you have tried both of these and still cannot get your features working again, something could have shorted in the phone and could possibly need replacement. Please PM me, and I will help you further if these steps don't work.
