Problem saving downloaded ringtone

I'm new to my Droid (and smartphones in general) so please explain things in baby talk!
I downloaded a ringtone from Verizon, and got a text message. The directions say to press save audio, and when I do, it says "unable to save attachment". If I press the attachment, it plays, but won't save to the music folder, nor is it in my ringtone list.
Any suggestions how to fix this? I know I was dumb to buy a ringtone, but since I did it I'd like to be able to use it.
Many thanks.

I have had my Incredible for about a week, but have been a smartphone user for several years. I am having the exact same problem.
Can anyone help us out please? I've searched the user guide/manual, followed the intstructions provided during the purchase of the ringtone and searched the VZ Support site and have not found anything about this yet.

Hi Noah, I have tried both options in your response and neither one works with my Droid Incredible.
My phone has been activated, but I still get the message "unable to save attachment."
When I try and forward the e-mail, I get the following message: "The DRM object included with this message cannot be forwarded."
The ringtones were purchased from Verizon's marketplace, so I am very surprised that it would be this difficult to get them downloaded to my Verizon phone. I wonder how many other Incredible users are losing money buying ringtones they cannot access on their phones?

If not preloaded and found on the main menu, the application can be located in the Android Marketplace. Follow the steps outlined below to download:
Select the Marketplace icon on the device.
Once Marketplace is opened, select the Verizon tab.
Select the V CAST Tones application.
Select Install.
Result: The application will download from the Marketplace.
Once installed, launch the application from the home screen of the device.
If V CAST Tones is not located in the Verizon tab perform a search in the Marketplace. Follow the steps below to search for an application:
Select the Search icon at the top of the Marketplace main page.
Type V CAST Tones and press the Search icon again.
V CAST Tones will appear in the Search results.
Select the application and install.
Once you download the application, you would want to open the application to download and purchase ringtones. You would not want to use the method of sending the ringtones via message.

I'm a very annoyed Verizon customer right now also. I just ran into the same problem. There should be a disclaimer/warning prior to purchase. I feel that Verizon just conned me out of 8.97. Very very disappointed.

We apologize about the problems you were having getting ringtones to the device. Android devices are different from regular phones and have a different method for obtaining ringtones.

So you're saying that the ringtones I just downloaded from the Verizon website are useless on my phone?! I'm getting a little older now, and my psychic ability is not what it used to be. Anybody think it might be a good idea to actually TELL people this when they're buying the **bleep** things?! At the top of the checkout window, it actually says what phone I'm buying the ringtones for! And it can't say, "Hey, you know these aren't going to work, right?"? I've only had this phone a couple of weeks, so it's a little disconcerting to see how this is being done. What else is waiting for me down the road?

That's absurd. Why in the world would they not specify this ON THE MEDIA PAGE! it's just going to let money be sucked out of my account? at least when I had an iPhail it would let me download what I want from phone or comp. That is stupid. L2 Tell the truth Verizon. I will be calling and complaining about this.

You would want to make sure you are using the correct ringtones application on the device. V CAST Tones is the next evolution of the VZW Tones application and is available as an upgrade in the Android marketplace under the Verizontab.
Select the Marketplaceicon on the device.
Once Marketplace is opened, select the Verizontab.
Type V CAST Tones and press the Searchicon again.
V CAST Tones will appear in the Search results.
Select the application and install.
Ringers
From the main screen, touch Menu
Touch Settings
Touch Sound & Display
Touch Phone Ringtone
Select Ringer of choice, tap OK
Set MP3 as Ringtone
- From the main screen tap Menu, and then tap Music.
- Tap at the bottom-left corner of the screen to go to the Library.
- In the Library, select the song that you want to use as ringtone and then play it back.
- On the Playback screen, press MENU and then tap "Set as ringtone".
- In the Set as ringtone options menu, tap Phone ringtone or Contact ringtone.
- If you select Contact ringtone, you need to select the contacts you want to associate the song with in the next screen.

Ringback Tones can only be selected/ purchased through the Verizon Wireless library online, (Verizon Wireless Media Store), or from your wireless device, (VZW Tones Deluxe). You are unable to use your own media for Ringback Tones. Below I have provided you with the link for the Verizon Wireless Media Store for Ringback Tones.
Thank you,

I know you may have been discouraged as was I after reading all these postings. Anyway, Verizon Wireless doesn't seem to want to make it easy to find this information and some people's steps seem far too complicated for how I solved this problem. The steps to save and install ringtones you've bought via the vzw website are as follow:
PLEASE NOTE: These steps only apply to the Droid since that is the one I have and figured this out with.
1) Open the text message(s) you received
2) Instead of clicking on the file that plays the song touch and hold the message itself
3) You'll then have a menu with several "message options", one of which is "save as ringtone"
4) Click/touch "save as ringtone"
5) Perform this step for any addtional ringtones you want to save
6) Once done, go back to your home screen
7) Go to "Settings"
😎 Go to "Sound"
9) Go to "Ringtones"
10) Scroll and find your new ringtone and select is and select "OK"
11) Your're done!!!! Enjoy 😃
I hope this helps

Hi,
I tried to call *228 on my Thunderbolt and I don't even get a ring. Is the process different for a Thunderbolt?
Thanks,

You are not supposed to do the *228 with the HTC Thunderbolt.
