Problems Day 1...are you serious? Droid X

onewithshadows

I have not installed ANY apps I did not have installed on my Incredible, which I gave to my wife since that is what she wanted. Here I am day 1. The phone has self rebooted 3 times, one time I had to actually pull out the battery because it froze on startup. I can not turn on and off wifi at will. It tells me "unable to turn off wifi." Even better than that, now it is only showing 1x connection. I am getting no 3g in a place where I get 75-85dbm signal strength? Oh, sorry. Phone just restarted again...so make that 4 times. This is a **** joke. $300 for a phone that doesnt work half as well as the Incredible I already had? Just be patient and get the obviously better phone. Now my wife would make me pry that Incredible out of her cold dead fingers and I am stuck with a phone that doesn't work. Awesome job Motorolla....cant wait for HTC to put out a 4.3 inch screen phone on Verizon so I can dump your pos. I will NEVER buy moto again.

And it just froze on the startup eye again. Looks like another battery pull. I am beyond so **bleep** off right now, especially since it is sold out so regardless I am stuck with a crap phone until they can at least get them in stock again. Of course, right after I get everything set up on the phone how I want it.

Edit: I have also just noticed a problme with the webrowser closing for no reason while trying to type something into google search. Hopefully its just an app or something. I do not want to wait to get another new phone.

Any phone can have issues early in it's release.  As for HTC, don't be to hot on them either.  The incredible has a incredibly sensitive lens over the camera that likes to crack, not to mention HTC's are notorious for having to pop the battery out and reset.  The Evo has the wonderful touch screen that peels away from the phone due to the phone heating up and softening the glue.

Sometimes you just get a bad phone, it happens.  Heck same thing happens with cars that cost $50k.

I'd try doing a reset of the phone and restore it to stock config.  If it works fine after that, there could be an app that works fine with the Incredible, but doesn't like the Droid X.  After all it's first day release, not much time for app programmers to identify and fix any bugs.  If it does indeed wind up being an issue with the phone it's self, use your warranty and chalk it up to a bad phone in the batch.  I've had Several Motorola phones and HTC phones, and overall I have found the Motorola phones to be of much better craftsmanship.

Know the feeling!!! The statement is "Droid Does" I say it "Does NOT!!!" I have worked (wasted) all day trying to connect to the corporate sync and it will NOT do it. Even the tech support team couldn't figure it out. Can't believe I gave up my Blackberry for this. I depend on Outlook. IF they can't figure this out may have to get my money back switch to something else. I thought this was supposed to be easy - ha. I wonder if I could bill verizon or motorola for time spent trying to figure out thier mess up?

It must suck to be an incredibly impatient person that runs out to get a device upon release just to discover that it has a few issues.

It must be nice to be superior than everyone else! People are aggravated and you make a **bleep** comment like that!

Mine just power cycled, but could be because I am using the helix launcher to hide that **bleep** moto blur that shows my contact short cut at the bottom right. Everything else is fine except that and the privacy issue. I may swao it out for the incredible within a few days.

Well I have had my Droid X since the moment the VZW store opened Thursday morning and I have not experienced ANY of the problems that anyone here has described.

Everyone knows that a certain percentage of electronics are faulty due to manufacturing and technical glitches.  I would say that you have the unfortunate position of being one of those that got a faulty one and just need to exchange it.

My DROID X works like a charm and the only issue I am having now is the fact that Skype Mobile doesn't acutally run on WiFi, but off the VZW 3G Wireless network...so I *CAN'T* use my DROID X outside of the country in places that don't have CDMA (I'm currently in Franfurt Germany, on business).

Otherwise, it's a great phone.

This is strange I usually run into issues that no one else has noticed and I have beentold it must been something with my device because no one else has experianced it but theis time I am the one that havent had any major issues with my device, it is strange to read that someone is having lock up issues already, I am starting to think that there may have been a few bad seeds in the batch...

Hope everyone can resolve this issue reported because nothing is like waiting for a device and then have issue with it after getting it.. (But keep in mind that this is a new device and all devices run into its bugs)

By the way you might want to read this about a update fix is reported to be possible realeased on 07-21-2010, check it out here:  http://www.androidcentral.com/droid-x-update-promises-bevy-minor-fixes

The Incredible is far superior to the X!!!!

onewithshadows:  Most people who were having problems like you have are reporting that after a night of charging these issues have gone away.

Just to trouble shoot the problem, try letting the phone charge while turned off for 4-6 hours then see what it does.

What ROM are you on?  1.13.516 was replaced by 1.13.640 with tons of fixes.  But for some reason, although my pre-released X from Work got 640, my retail one says it's up to date.

I'm trying to figure out why someone would give up a perfectly good working phone to move to something that hasn't proven itself in the marketplace yet.  Also, why did you pay $300 for a device that sells for $199.99?  You have the option to return the phone and get your money back and then you can purchase another Incredible, so you aren't stuck with the device.

Those issues are not normal, I would first try a hard reset from Settings > Privacy, and if that did not solve your problems, I would exchange the phone for a new one.

I have read all of the various posts about freezing, WIFI, etc. but I am not having these problems.  I hope that it either works itself out for you or you get a replacement phone.  The incredible is not all that incredible.  Like anything new you have to give it some time to work itself out, besides it hasn't been a week yet.

I agree.  I am trying to wait patiently on getting a new phone.  Which is very hard for me! My upgrade date is Oct 7th so I will have faith that the experts will get the bugs out of the Droid X by then cause I am a little tired of my BB Storm1 phone.  I can't stand the lack of applications I can use and how slow it can get sometimes.  I do hope that whatever phone I decide to upgrade to will be well worth it and that I can be satisfy for at least a FULL 2 years.  I am beginning to feel caught up with this whole UPDATE TECHNOLOGY THANG. :smileyhappy:

I came from a Blackberry Storm 1 and there is no going back.  The Droid X phone is soooooooo much better at anything & everything then the Storm.  I can really see that the Droid X will be my phone for more than 2 years.  A phone just can't get any better and that is without Android 2.2.  When the Droid X gets 2.2 in a week or 2 from now, the phone will have FULL web capability which includes flash stuff.

My early upgrade was supposed to be in October too, but I got them to move it up to 7/15/10.  Maybe you can try that too.

This could possibily my the last phone I ever buy.
