I absolutely love being able to tether my laptop with my Treo 700p on Verizon to get broadband on the go.  Does anyone know whether a) the Droid supports that and b) Verizon is going to offer the option?

The answer is a) not yet.  However tethering will become an option in b) 2010!

One thing to look at until Verizon gets an official app, is to look at {Keep it Legal}.  They have an android app for just this reason.  you can do a trial as well.  I will have to do this, until verizon releases the official version.

Apparently this works:

Before you download the App on the droid:

You will need to go to home>menu>settings>applications>check unknown sources

Then go to  home>menu>setting>application>development>check USB debugging

If you don't know if you have 32 bit or 64 bit OS: Go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827218  and figure that out

Go here to download the drivers for your computer:[edit]

On your computer Download PDANet here: [edit]

On your droid go to [edit] and download the app

I'm sure that you should call Verizon and add tethering to your account to make sure that you are not in violation of your contract.

As the starter of this thread, I asked whether Droid tethers.  A VZW person responded that while it wouldn't immediately, it would in 2010.  My question was answered, hence solved.

If you want to be outraged about the lack of tethering, perhaps you should start a new thread.  I will express my disappointment with my wallet and not get a Droid.

It is resolved and apparently you can tether.  Sorry for posting links to third party software.  Here are the steps:

You will need to go to home>menu>settings>applications>check unknown sources

Then go to  home>menu>setting>application>development>check USB debugging

If you don't know if you have 32 bit or 64 bit OS: Go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827218  and figure that out

Ddownload the drivers for your computer from Motorola   (not a third party, but I won't post the link because it was previously deleted)  Motorola>Consumer Site>Droid>Owner Support>Drivers and Synchoronization>USB Drivers and PC Charger Driver (Learn More)

{Keep it Legal}
