When I receive a photo via text the screen says I need to download the photo but nothing happens.
First, verify that you have an active cellular data connection (3G) and then touch the "download" button in the picture message.
Report back if that works or not.
My phone says downloading but nothing happens. Previously when I received a text with a picture it would show up without saying download.

Have you looked in your Download folder and Messaging folder on your SD card to see if the picture really did download, but didn't display? On the X2 there are actually two SD card locations; mnt/sdcard and mnt/sdcard-ext.
