Reception of Droid X vs Original Moto Droid.

So as the title states, I was wondering how the reception of the new Moto Droid X compares to that of the original Moto Droid. I had a bad experience with the original Moto Droid with 2 separate units going into 1x while my other phones were in 3G in the same location. Is the Droid X more likely to hold onto a 3G signal as opposed to dropping down to 1x? Thanks so much.

I am sure some of you guys have upgraded from the original Droid to the Droid X. Thanks in advance for the help.

I had and have great reception with both Droids. My X is doing great and my daughter continues to enjoy my original model Droid.

Did you notice any difference in their ability to stay in 3G? Thanks

That's pretty interesting and encouraging, at the same time. I was really trying to stay away from Motorola because of the problems I had with the original Droid going into 1x but I may have to reconsider now.

It's hard to say if you had a device with an issue, or if you were in an area with poor 3G coverage.  My Droid X switches to 1X during data use, but I've noticed it coincides with phone calls and text messages arriving.  A few seconds later it will return to 3G.  My wife has a Droid 1 that does the same thing.  Our signals are pretty much identical on the few occasions that I looked at it.

I had the phone exchanged and the new unit did the same thing. The original Droid is terrible at staying in 3G.

So CRB79, the only time your phone switches to 1x is when a call comes in?

Anyone else experience this or have any comments on my original question? Thanks so much.

Never having the original Droid, I can make no comment about it. However, I do have the Droid X. Living in the central part of the U.S. (Kansas City area), I have relatives and friends on both coasts. My 3G stays fairly constant, and when I call the people I know who live on the coasts, I have asked them how is the reception. All of them tell me that it sounds as though I'm in the same room with them. The reception is clear and loud, when I say loud I mean conversation loud, not TV ads loud.
