Recover Items from Trash

Ok, so I'm a newbie at this whole smartphone thing!  Just got my Droid X last Friday and still trying to play with it and figure things out -- it's all a bit overwhelming!

I was trying to drag something from one home screen to another (easier said than done) and I accidentally threw it into the trash can.

Is there any way to recover items from the Trash Can?  Also, is there any way to empty the Trash Can?

I cannot find any info on this anywhere.

Thanks!

Ok, I got the solution from the Motorla Owner's forum, so I thought I'd post here in case anyone stumbles across these posts and might wonder what the answer woudl be -- here is the answer I received:

No, it's not as intuitive as it could be. You are on the right track. When you get into your gallery, select a picture. That will complete the set-up and it should then take you back to the home screen where your widget should be loaded. Good feedback!

That worked!  Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and help!!

I think the trash can empties itself (someone can correct me if I'm wrong).  If you accidently dropped something in the trash can, just go to the app tray and press down on the application until it jumps.  It will then appear on whatever screen you were on when you accessed the app try (by clicking on the middle botton on the bottom of the screen; up arrow with circle around it).

I did try that already -- but not sure exactly what app it was.

It was the screen that sort of looks like it was a media player of some sort -- not sure what it was, because I hadn't checked it out yet.

The whole idea is to customize the screens the way you want them.  Was it a widget ... something on the middle or top of the screen?  I took all of those off because they are running apps and drain the battery.

Not sure what it was!  I know it was something I didn't want to delete just yet because I wasn't sure exactly what is was or if I would eventually delete it.  No matter what I put back on the screen, it does not look anything like whatever I deleted (looked like a Windows Media Player screen).  I've tried the music app, shortcut, etc., but nothing comes back the way it looked before.

The things I do know I want to get rid of (Facebook & Twitter, becasue I do not use them) of course I can't delete.  I don't use social networking sites and don't plan on it any time soon, so I would like to get rid of them -- especially so they don't run in the background and drain my battery!

I just wish I could have gotten into the Trash Can and taken whatever I deleted out of the Trash Can and put it back on the home screen -- would have definitely made my life simpler!

Thanks for the advice!

Was it the YouTube Widget or perhaps a news widget?

Nope, just tried those and it's not either one.  I thought maybe it was the photo slideshow (Motorola Widget), but I've tried numerous times to get that widget to install on the homescreen and it won't (there is plenty of room!).  I hold my finger on the home screen to pull up the menu, select Motorola Widgets, and then select photo slideshow.  But, all it does is take me into the gallery of pictures -- it doesn't install a widget on the screen, no matter how I try.  Thanks!

YAY!  Glad you figured it out.  I didn't want to suggest returning your phone back to the factory state.  That's not a solution at all!

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too!!!  Definitely not a fun option!  Thanks again for your suggestions!
