So,
I made the mistake of not only syncing my contacts to GMAIL, but also to Backup Assistant on my old Blackberry. When I activated my DX, it seems to have double sync'd the contacts......At first it was the contact listed twice, however, after a powercycle, now each contact is listed once, but all the information for the contact (phone #, birthday, email, etc) are listed twice.
I have done some searches on the 'net, and so far it looks like the only fix is to factory restore the device, which doesnt seem like the "logical" option.
I tried to uninstall Backup Assistant, however it is the only account that has a lock icon on it, which seems to be preventing me from deleting it!
Does anyone have any ideas? Also, is there a way, where if I do have to Factory Reset the phone, that I can do a backup (like blackberry) with my apps, and settings, minus the contacts?
Any help is appreciated!!!

I too made the mistake of activating the Backup Assistant. That software is a total useless POS that has caused me nothing but problems. Whoever is responsible for writing that clunky program should be demoted to cleaning the toilets.
That being said, sorry, but I don't have an answer for you. Only thing I can think of is to unlink the names from the various groups and see if that helps.

To keep your apps, download from the market Astro file manager, it helps you backup your apps to the sd card.
I had a similar issue and I wish I had never activated backup assistant...

My contacts got all screwed up with Backup Assistant. So, I did a factory reset (I had only had the phone for a few days, so not too much to reconfigure). After I did that I did not activate BA ... I think it is a POS. I tried to upload a CSV file (that uploaded fine on the Google website), but had errors in BA with no explanation on what needed to be fixed.

I would recommend deleting all the contacts on your backup assistant on the Verizon wireless website. Once you do this upload your Google contacts and then sync your contacts with backup assistant. This should get rid of any problems with your contacts. Hope this helps.
