Currently using an iphone, AT&T coverage is horrible (let alone other issues)! Considering the X but need confirmed answers in finding a device that performs a couple functions the iPhone can't.
1. When the X is interfaced with a pc via usb, using Explorer or Mac's Finder, can the X be viewed as a device in which a folder can be created?
2. If so, can a file be transfered to this folder?
In a nutshell, I download a data file from a piece of test equipment onto a notebook and I need to email that file. I'm hoping to be able to transfer that data file to a mobile device and attach the file to an email.
Or for that matter, can the X easily be used to tether my notebook to access the internet? The iPhone does not support this.
They say there's an app available for the iPhone but will only work if within a Wifi hotspot. But still unknown if the file dropped into the folder can be attached to an email.
3. Can attached emailed .wmv files be viewed on the X? iPhone does not allow this, says it's an unsupported video file.
Thanks in advance!

yes. Windows Explorer will 'see' this device for you to manage the directories on the SD card. There are also Media Manager programs both from Verizon & Moto ... frankly, I've had a hard time getting those to work consistently - so I just do as you mention .. connect my phone via USB and manage the folders.

yes, there are several ways to move files to/fr your phone. When you receive one via email, you can simply Save it to the download directory ... or use a FILE manage app to move it where you wish. Pretty easy with the X.
Or for that matter, can the X easily be used to tether my notebook to access the internet? The iPhone does not support this.
Yes, you can TETHER with the X ... but if you do the WiFi tethering, it costs an extra $9.99/mo. There are other APPS out there that allow you to access your phone's connection via a laptop when USB connected.. I never tried it .. it will likely be slow, but doable.

Any file in a folder can be emailed ... You just need to point to the folder you wish to attach from. when you compose your email.

I haven't tried specific .WMV files .... I know that .MP4 files work great though. I have a program that converts various file formats to .MP4 ....
I think you're really going to like the DROID X coming from the iPhone ... Good luck.

I just wanted to point out one little oversite, the Wireless Teather (Mobile Hotspot) cost 25.00 a month for 2 Gigs of data transfer instead of the 9.99..

Since you are on the subject of tethering, I would like to know what apps are out there for it? I"m not talking about 3G hotspot, but a physical usb tether. It would be instantly secure without having to remember another password or need wpa2.

Verizon has plans for usb teathering and there are a number of apps for this on the market but keep in mind that since Verizon offers this feature they may frown on you using any of the 3rd party apps. Just to give you something to concider because I do not know if using any of the ones on the market breaks any of Verizons service rules on contract.
