Ringtone apps - using after saved

Brand new Droid user here.  We just switched from the iPhone and got the X last night.  We have some ringtone applications from the "market" and have saved certain ringtones.  But, when you go to add them to someone's profile, they are no where to be found.  Am I doing something wrong, or do we have to get these from certain applications only?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

It is hard to instruct you on how to use the software if we do not know which one you are using , Ringo is the best app to usein my opinion or you can copy files into SD/Media/Audio/Ringrones and select file through settings options or contact ringer option.
