Ringtones -- and music in general -- become unplayable

Hi--
As I did on my OG DROID, I created a music folder and a ringtones folder on my SD card on the Charge, and put music and ringtones in them respectively.
I then used Astro file manager to select one of my ringtones as my default. I was also able to play the music files (or the ringtones, for that matter).
At some point, I noticed I was missing calls. Then, I saw my phone light up with a call, but made no sound. After the call, I checked--ring volume was up full, but there was no ringtone. I went into my SD card and tried to play the ringtone, and it wouldn't. Same with the music files.
This keeps happening. Not sure what it is that causes it, but it may be either or both using a USB connection or Bluetooth. The USB connection can unmount/remount the SD card, so that might be it, if the re-mount when USB is disconnected doesn't quite finish properly.
Anyone else see this?

At this point, I can't agree that an unmounted SD card is the source of the problem. Do the native/preloaded ringtones still work?

Please view here for information on how to download music to the Samsung Charge.
Please note that only DRM free / unprotected music can be transferred via this method. DRM protected content (e.g. songs downloaded via iTunes, Rhapsody subscription, etc.) will not play on this device.
Let us know if this has addressed your concerns. Thank you very much.

Not sure why this is marked as solved, all that was posted was how to transfer files to the phone via USB cable. If the person didn't know how to do that, he wouldn't have music on the phone to play in the first place....
I have this same issue, I have to restart my Charge often as it will stop playing music files. I get a "File cannot be played" error or something like. All of my music is DRM free. Same thing with video files. The funny thing is, I recorded these files with the phone itself.
There are many posts on this forum about this, it is a widespread issue. The phone played everything perfectly until maybe 3 weeks ago. This date conincides with the update from early June that was made to improve 4G connectivity. Perhaps they are related?

Have you gotten an answer on this issue, yet? It's driving crazy. I have the amazon mp3 app on my phone. Bought the song directly from the site and it still won't play. Very frustrating!

It's driving me crazy as well. Happened to me 2x today again. I'm rebooting at least once per day right now if I want my mp3 ringtones to work or if I want to use the media player.

I posted a similar message on the forum about this problem too. I noticed it happens every few days. Even with the stock ringtones and message alerts. It just goes silent and I miss calls unless I happen to see it light up as the call comes in.
On one hand, I'm glad to see others can validate this so it's not just me, but I'm also annoyed because this phone was expensive to buy and is expensive to use. I expect better!! Anyways, have to restart the stupid phone in order to make it work again.
WHY????

I have to restart my Charge 2-3 times a day when this happens. Once I restart, everything works. VERY annoying.

I have a Droid Charge and I am having the same issues. I took Verizon Supports advice and recreated all of my ringtone files and it worked ok yesterday but today I missed two calls due to the ringtone not playing.
I really love this phone but I don't like not being able to use my own ringtones.
HELP!!!

Are you able to play the ringtones by going to Settings when this happens? Does this happen with the standard ringtones for you also? I'm not showing this in our product issues for this device, but based on numerous people having this issue I will submit feedback to our product team to see if we are able to duplicate it.

I'm not able to hear the sound when I go to a news website and play a video...I've tried the player and the browser, but neither one gives me any sound. I've got the volume turned way up and the phone makes sounds in general, but can't hear the news website video. Interestingly, You Tube videos work fine.

I've discovered this problem the last week or so myself. I just got my Charge about 3 weeks ago. I set my ringtone to a mp3 file I transferred over via USB, and it worked fine. Then I started missing calls and realized it wouldn't play the ringtone. Seems to clear up if I reboot the phone.
Then I noticed that it also wouldn't play mp3 or any type of video files, either downloaded or transferred via USB. Said "file type not supported" or something like that. I know that mp4 video files ARE supported, and I've played these files before on the phone without a problem.
Not sure why it suddenly 'forgets' how to play these files, but definitely sounds like an OS or software glitch. Please look into this.
Thank you.
Bud
ps. I was able to solve the ringtone problem by using RingDroid to edit my mp3 file and save it as a ringtone. seems to work for that, but the other music/video thing keeps happening daily, without warning.

I'm having the same problem, after awhile ringtones that are stored on my microSD card will stop working while the default ones that came with the phone in phone memory will still work (I test it by changing the ringtones in my notification/phone call settings and hear the default ones but when I change to my custom ones on the microSD card, it's silent).
I tested it using RingDroid to make new ringtones but same thing happened after about a day where my custom ones would stop playing. My fix is usually to restart the phone and then it works fine but of course I have to miss a few calls/text messages before realizing my ringtones stopped playing and I need to restart (and it stops working for no reason as I just have my phone idling, I'm not USB connected or using it for anything). This has only been happening the past few weeks, is there any fix or reason why this is happening?

I'm sure what you are experiencing with your Charge ringtones can be very frustrating! I would like to assist you with resolving this issue!
I would like to make a few suggestions, try removing and redownloading the ringtones first. If that doesn't permanently resolve the issue, perform a Hard Reset of the Charge. Just ensure your data is backed up prior to Hard Reset. I am including a link with instructions and screen shots for the Hard Reset below.
Hard Reset - Samsung DROID Charge SCH-I510
Let me know how this works out for you!

Thanks for the information, I tried it a hard reset as well as redownloading/reinstalling the ringtones and still the same issue...but I've since then uninstalled Twitter and so far (at least the past couple days), everything seems to be working ok, so it seems like the Twitter app was the issue.

I've been having the same problem with the video not working on youtube tried uninstalling twitter and trying youtube but that didn't help. I then tried a restart and soft reset neither worked. Then magically youtube started working again a few days ago. Hopefully it stays this way. Although it's very frustrating owning a phone that has so many random problems!

Thanks for posting your findings. I certainly understand why having these issues would be frustrating. Again, uninstalling Twitter has worked for a lot of people and we are still working on a permanent resolution.
