SD card help

ok, so i have been googling to no avail and figured i would give these forums a shot.  i was attempting to transfer files from my laptop (windows 7) to my sd card (via an adapter), something i have never had a problem with before.   this particular time, however, i kept getting a message saying the disk was write protected.  i first checked that the lock switch on the card adapter wasn't engaged.  then i right clicked on the sd card in 'my computer' and saw the read only box was checked.  i unchecked it and was able to transfer the files.

when i reinserted the card to my phone, i got an error message saying the sd card was blank or an unsupported file type.  the phone gives me the option to format, but when i select it nothing happens.  i pulled it from the phone, put it in the adapter, and put it in my laptop.  the laptop will not recognize the card either.  if i go into 'my computer' sometimes it will show the e:/ drive as an sd card, but nothing for the capacity.  when i click on it, the progress bar at the top will move, but nothing else happens.  occasionally the laptop will also give me the option to format, but nothing happens.

any clue on how to solve this?  obviously at this point i don't care if i have to format (i back my sd card up to my pc from time to time), i just want to be able to use the card that came with my phone.  i am currently using an 8gb card form my last phone, and it works fine both in the phone and in the laptop, so i know the adapter is not the problem.  any help would be appreciated.

My first question is why remove the SD card from your phone and put it into an adapter and then into your computer? My second question is did you remove the SD card correctly? By that, I mean, did you unmount it first, or just take it out? If you did not unmount it first, you probably toasted the card.

Put the card into your phone, Tap on the menu key>Settings>SD card and phone storage>Unmount card>Format.

Once the card has been formatted, just hook your phone to your computer using the cord that came with the charger. Your computer should see your phone as a removable disc, just as though it were a thumbdirve. Once this is done, you can move files back and forth. As far as finding the correct file on the phone, just move it to the main folder and let go, it will find the correct folder to put it in.

If you can not format it to reuse, I'm afraid that the card is ruined and unuseable.

i had gotten an invalid battery message on my phone and was unable to recharge it, so i was backing stuff up while waiting for the replacement phone.  the phone was dead when i pulled the card.  thank you for your suggestion, but it did not work.    oh well
