Saving deleted/sent text messages

Is it possible to retrieve deleted text messages or to set up away to save text messages on the Droid 2? I have a teen and have some concerns....so I was wondering if there is a way to retrieve deleted messages or to set up for them to be saved to the memory on the phone?

There are certain apps such as Handcent that allow SMS backup, but they must be installed and put in motion before deleting the messages. The only way to retrieve a deleted text is to get a court order within 5 days of deleting the text.
