Screen Capture on Samsung Charge

My phone has saved four screen captures to the Gallery.  Great feature but I don't know how I did it. It seems to be some combination of button presses on the bottom of the phone, suddenly I hear the shutter sound and receive an advisment on the screen that a screen capture has been saved.  My daughter's I-phone does a screen capture, I checked with Verizon customer service/technical support.  The say the phone is not supposed to have that capability.  Does anybody know the key/button sequence to create a screen capture?

dmaxfeldt,

While you are  holding down the BACK button press the HOME button once and then in about one second you will hear a click that sounds like a camera taking a picture as the screen is captured (saved)..

I believe it's Home and back. The two middle buttons.

JerryF,

I have been a lurker for several months and become an active participant because of what I have read from you.  I think it is time for you to collect all the tips and tricks you have written and collected and draft them in a book.  You could have chapters on: How the Droid OS works for us users, How memory is managed, Droid Termonology, Battery management and care, "To root or not to root ... that is the question?", How the OS is updated/upgraded, How to manage the carriers, etc.

PJ,

Thanks for the nice comment.  I appreciate it.  I probably will be scaling down my efforts on this forum because I find the NEW format cumbersome, time consuming, and not much fun to use.

Writing a book is way to much work.  For 20 years I ran my own computer security company and wrote 15 or more books so I really know how much work there is in writing a book.  Anyhow that is either Verizon's or Samsung's job.  By the way there is a manual for the Charge phone on the Samsung web site.

As they used to say in Mission Impossible:  Your job Mr. PJ, should you decide to accept it, is to go find that  manual.

Best regards,

Thankyou everybody for the help.  Works great.  The back button just slightly before the home button, holt a few second works.  Back button with a double tap on the home button works every time.  I appreciate the help.  Thank You

I also appreciate the tip.  But where does the phone save the screen shot?  Or does it?   I looked in the gallery, but it isn't there.

Never mind.  It showed up in the gallery after about 5 minutes.

Squeekstr,

In the APPs that came with your phone you have one called My Files.  Go to it and touch it.  Then go down the list of folders  to Screen Capture.  Touch it  and you will see any and all screen captures you made.  That's where they hide 'em.  (:  (:

It is in a folder called "screencapture" right off of the root directory of

your SD card.

NO, this is built into the phone by Samsung.  It is NOT software.

Is there a way to capture the screen I'm actually on?  Unless I'm on the home screen, as soon as I hit the 'back' button, it goes to my previous screen before the screenshot is captured.  For ex, how can I capture a shot of a text message without the phone going back a screen prior to the capture?  Thank you!

jp3296,

I first saw this on another forum but had to modify it some so it would work every time.  If the problem is that when you take a screen shot the screen goes BACK to the previous screen BEFORE the screen shot is captured and therefore you get a screen shot of the wrong screen, this will fix that problem.

When you have the screen you want to capture PULL DOWN THE NOTIFICATION SCREEN.  Then you press the Back button (keep holding it down) and QUICKLY press and release the Home button while still holding down the Back button.  Your phone will remove the notification screen and capture the screen you wanted to capture but remember to keep holding down the Back button until you hear the clicking sound of the screen capture itself.

This is the best and easiest solution...problem finally solved!

there are also apps that can take a screen shot based upon a timer (e.g. 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 60 seconds, etc.)

I can just press both Home and back at the same time and it works for me.
