I have two Droid 2 Globals and each with different apps. Each one will randomly go black when in the middle of sending a text, writing an e-mail or using any app. I then have to hit the power button which will quickly reveal the unlock slide. I can then unlock the screen. This problem happens very randomly on my two phones. Ideas?

Make sure you are using the stock messaging application.
Make sure that there are no task manager applications, or battery managing applications on the device that may be causing the issue.
Try doing a soft rest on the device.
Soft Reset
Press the Power key.
Touch Power off.
Touch OK.
Remove the battery about 1 minute.
Press the Power key to power on the device.
Dial *228 send and option 1 on the device.
As a last resort if the problem persist a factory reset maybe needed.
Factory Reset option 1
From the main screen, touch menu tab
Touch Settings
Touch Privacy
Touch Factory Data reset
Touch Reset Phone
Touch Erase Everything
Warning: This will erase all data from your phone, including:
- Your Google account
- System and application data and settings
- Downloaded Applications
It will not erase: Current System software and bundled applications; SD Card files, such as music or Photos
Factory Reset option 2 - Warning this will reset device back to original factory settings.
- Turn off the phone
- Power on phone while pressing "X" key on qwerty keypad - release "X" and power key after you see Motorola batwings.
- You should now see an "!" in a triangle with Android guy
- Press the "Search" key on qwerty keypad to enter factory menu, this will unhide the menu and show the following options
- Reboot system Now
- Apply sdcard:update.zip
- Wipe Data/Factory Reset

- Use Vol Up / Vol down to navigate to "wipe data/factory reset" and then use Camera side key or Menu key to select "wipe data/factory reset"
- Use Vol Up / Vol down to navigate to "Yes delete all user data" and then use Camera key to select "Yes - delete all user data"
- Wait for operation to complete (maybe 1 minute or so) and then press camera key to select "reboot system now"

The stock battery management system is pretty good. You would want to tweak some of the settings on the device, but overall it works very well.

This happened to me as well and then I realized I had the in-pocket detection setting on. after i turned it off (go to settings-display-in pocket detection) the screen would no longer go black randomly, i assumed it had something to do with the way i held the phone made it think i was putting it in my pocket? Hope this works

I have now had two droid global 2's that blank out when I place a call or when a call comes in. I don't have the pocket detection. I am going to take third phone to store. this is very frustrating.
