Since system update, can no longer save photos or access galleries

I received and installed a system update yesterday.  Now, I can no longer access photos or save any photos.  Most of the time, when I press the camera button, I get a message that says "Sorry!  The process androoid.process.media has stopped unexpectedly.  Please try again."  I also get this message when I go to settings, about phone and it happens at random times, like when I'm checking email or texting.

A couple of times I've been able to get the camera open and take a photo, but after I save it, when I go to gallery, it says there are no photos or videos to show.

I thought all of my photos had been deleted, but I was able to plug my phone into the computer and copy them, so they are there on the phone somewhere.

I tried restarting, removing and reinstalling the sd card, and installing a brand new sd card.  Nothing has helped.

How can I fix this?

Here's my last update:  I took the phone to the verizon store and they copied all my contacts then did a hard reset.  It's now working fine.  What's strange is that all my apps were deleted and I had to reload them, but all my photos came back.  They were on the phone and not on the sd card (and I had replaced the sd card with a new one before i brought the phone in), but they're there.  I have to idea how they survived the reset.  At the store they said they didn't back them up and they said they couldn't back anything up, but contacts.

I'm now reading a lot of the other threads and it appears that the gingerbread update has really caused a lot of problems.  I'm glad my phone is working now, but what a pain and waste of time it was to spend hours trying to figure out what went wrong then almost two hours in the store having them back it up and reset it.

July a Hard Reset or FR is a factory Reset what it does is takes your phone back to when you bought it new at the store an to get to were you do the hard reset you need to Hit menu > Settings > then Sd An phone Storage an scroll all the way to the bottom were you will see Factory Data Reset but dont Tap on it . Unless you know how to do the FR.

Since your new to doing a Fr Call Verizon go to option 3 or Technical support on a landline phone or a cell phone other than the one that needs the FR Tell them you have the Original Incredible an you need to perform an Fr an they'll help U go thru the steps.

Now you'll have to back up your contacts they'll tell you how to do it an if bought any apps they'll be save you free apps you need to write them down on a peice of paper so you know what you had an can re enter them.

but a wildman said this will help the phone. Good Luck an let us know if it help ya.!  B33

P.s Don't unmount your card an don't " format"  it.!    if you do you'll loose you pictures an Music. as they're on the Card

Here's an update:  I ran backup assistant and wrote down all my apps, then called verizon technical support.  They first had me dial #288 (I think that was it) and then update roaming, which didn't help. They then transferred me to someone who was supposed to be able to walk me through a hard reset, but first I asked him to make sure my contacts were all backed up.  He didn't see anything on his end so wanted me to run backup assistant again.  I went back in and this time it wouldn't run.  Ugh...  He recommended I take the phone to a verizon store and unfortunately they all close at 6 so I have to go tomorrow.  To be continued...

Thanks, B33, for your help and for posting detailed information.
