Skype Mobile for DROID X **NOT** VoIP!

I am a little dismayed that Skype Mobile for my DROID X is NOT a Voice-over-IP enabled app but only works over VZWs CDMA 3G signal!  I travel internationally and had not heard that Skype Mobile worked any other way than over WiFi technology.

If anyone at Verizon is reading this, I have two questions that beg an answer:

  1. Why did Verizon go with a CDMA version of Skype Mobile rather that allowing it to use WiFi VoIP technology?  and
  2. Will Verizon offer me the option to actually use my DROID X internationally in markets that don't have CDMA (most don't)?

I am here in Germany on business unable to use my DROID for anything useful without some sort of CDMA 3-G connection...

At this present time it is only available on our 3G networks. And we are always looking into bettering the user experience with new options. But currently it will only be available inside the U.S. Hope this helps.

This is the same lousy Verizon service that we encountered in the past with Verizon locking up our device's GPS capability such that it couldn't be used with applications that supported GPS.... even though the device had a GPS receiver...  (ex.  if we wanted GPS maps we had to pay to use (the 2nd rate) VZ Navigator map application.)

Skype mobile on every other carrier supports WiFi.  The better user experience has been found.  Verizon has decided not to give it to us so that we can't bypass the consumption of minutes on our calling plans by using VoIP.  Again, the greed motive.

Zachary, please be HONEST with your customers... don't feed us lines... we are smarter than that.

Honestly, you bought a CDMA only phone that has no advertised "Global" features.  Yet you are complaining that it won't work overseas?

The Droid X is a CDMA only device.  And as such is not a Global device.

I have to admit that I am a bit dismayed as well.  Skype Mobile should be a WIFI enabled technology using VOIP.

Skype without WiFi is pretty much useless to me. Travel outside the US and the Droids only connectivity option is WiFi, but Skype can't use it. Something smells fishy to me.
