Sluggish/Unresponsive Screen

Occasionally, my screen will be unresponsive or really sluggish.
This especially happens at the unlock screen. Sometimes it'll not register any taps/drags at all. I can sit there and tap tap tap away at my unlock screen and nothing happens. Other days it works fine. Then there's the days it's very, very slow.
This is how mine works.
I know it's not how it should be.
My dad's Droid X (which I activated today) is much more snappy than mine. His has never had any problems with unresponsiveness.
Is there anything I can do other than get a replacement and hope it's not the same or worse?

Mine gets like this from time to time, I would just uninstall apps that I have recently installed and if that didn't do the trick I would just do a hard restart... but i have noticed that my droid x has been doing this same thing more and more lately.
maybe its just when they get older they start wearing out...

It's most likely a bad app that doesn't sit well with your phone. Try deleting them, happens to mine all the time when I download a new app. I just uninstall it and it works fine again.

Delete unused data, cashe from programs like internet/facebook/twitter. and any other highly used apps
Chances are you dad doesn't use the phone nearly the same way you do.
A replacement phone isn't the answer

It's not the cache, I did that earlier today. Reboot didn't work. Battery pull didn't work. Factory restore didn't work. The apps weren't the cause.
If I'm remembering correctly, the phone was showing these signs the day I turned it on.
Of course my dad doesn't use the phone the same as I do. We just got it today. Hence why I stated I activated it today.

Are you using the stock HOME launcher? or did you install a different one (e.g., Launcher Pro, ADW, etc.)? This happens on my phone as well and I have concluded it is Launcher Pro Plus (paid version) that is causing it. The way I came to that conclusion is I just switched back to the stock HOME launcher and the "lag" when unlocking has basically gone away. I also ran in SAFE MODE and the problem went away, thereby concluding the likelihood of a 3rd party APP causing the issue.
To get into SAFE MODE:
- Power off the phone.
- Press and HOLD the Menu Button
- While holding down the Menu button, power UP the phone - coninue holding Menu button
Phone will come up and safe SAFE MODE in lower left corner ... test you phone for a while in that mode. Lock it and swipe to unlock after 5-10 mins. of it being locked ... is it snappy? Then probably some APP you installed getting in the way. Time to start uninstalling and testing ... or a system RESET (but don't allow your Apps to automatically get reinstalled).
To get out of Safe Mode, just power off and on as normal.
Good luck.

Safe mode did nothing.
And as I recall, it lagged with both the stock launcher and Launcher Pro Plus.

So you have installed / are using Launcher Pro Plus. Let me guess...your dad isn't, right?
My gut tells me that Launcher Pro is causing the problem, whether you actually use it or not. Uninstall it completely and see if that solves the issue.

This the feeling I'm having as well on my phone - LPP causing it. But I really don't want to uninstall it just to test that - too many options and configuration settings to deal with to reinstall it .. So I'm currently living with the annoyance. I've reported the LAG over on the LPP forum as well, but they have not responded.

I decided to humor you. I uninstalled Launcher Pro. It did nothing. I rebooted and tried again. Still, the lag persists.
I would like to point out that I have said this multiple times, but the lag occurred BEFORE I did anything to it (other than activation).
So, to be clear and reiterate what I've found out:
1. It's not any apps.
2. It's not the cache.
3. It's not any other floating data.
4. It's not the SD Card.

then it sounds like you have little recourse but to do a full RESET, or return the phone and get another one, or get some other phone that meets your expectations ... sorry. My experience of this LAG is that it is intermittent - but yes, anooying when it happens ... and 99% of the time I get a pop-up that says LPP is not responding - "force close / wait / report".

Earlier today, I did so. I called Tech Support, and they had me go through another round of troubleshooting (to no avail). I now have a phone shipping to me. It's supposed to arrive on Monday.
My expectations aren't too high. Just something that doesn't lag when I want to unlock it or when I need to press buttons (I.E while I was calling tech support, I couldn't press the numpad a few times to select options).
I do know, though, that the problem isn't with Verizon, but with Motorola (the manufacturer). I don't blame Verizon for anything. Their tech support was nice and easy to work with.
I've not had any experience with LPP not responding. It's worked flawlessly for me.

As I said before, it wasn't any app's problem unless it was a preloaded app (which I highly doubt).

OK I've read all the posts and my problem is the same. Intermittently trying to get the screen to accept any tap or slide, even with a rubbed hot finger, will go on for a time then start working OK. Very frustrating.
Spent hours with Verizon tech and eventually Motorola tech on a different problem, sent new phone, Droid X,. Problem the same. In my opinion: Motorola programmers need to be involved.

Verizon probably sent out 100 replacement phones the same day you were sent yours, and only the one they sent you had the same problem your original phone had...... think about that..... what ARE the odds????
And you really think it's a programming issue?
Now you may have a problem with your phone and it's replacement, but you can be **bleep** sure it's not a programming issue.
