Software Update failing

I've downloaded and tried to install the Froyo (2.2) update 5 times.   Each time with the following results.

1. download is successful

2. reboots and starts installing the update

3.  the status bar reaches about 30% when an explamation point appears

4.  the phone restarts and then I get a message saying "Update Status   The software updated failed".

I even tried resetting my phone to "factory defaults" and it still does the same thing.

I've never rooted my phone so all the help I've found online doesn't apply to me.

Is anyone else having this problem?   Does anyone have any suggestions how to fix this problem.

Try to do a battery pull then check for the update by following these steps: "Menu" > "Settings" > "About phone" > "System updates". The network could have been over capacity with Droid X users attempting to update their devices to 2.2

MorganB,

I have no problem with downloading the update...that works 100% of the time.   It's installing the update that doesn't work.

At this point, I've given up on getting 2.2 and decided to be happy with 2.1.   I have no other choice!

This is what I've done so far:

1. Removed battery..Tried updating.

2. Factory Defaults...then tried updating.

3. Formatted my SD card...then tried updating.

4. Spent 45 minutes on the phone with Verizon customer service and tried all the above again.  Talked to 4 people including Motorola support.  Motorola told me to go to a Verizon store and have them uploaded the updated manually with their recovery system.

5.  Spent 30 minutes at the Verizon store.  Verizon store does not have the update file so they couldn't  manually download the update to my phone.   They also tried the OTA update (3 times) without success.

Are you using the sd card that came in device or a 32 Gig card like so many other users, I had a issue like this with one of my customers because he bought the cheapest 32 Gig he could find online and the transfer speed couldnt R/W fast enough to do update, placed my card in his and did update without issue.

I am having this problem too.  My phone is doing an system update and it is taking over 15 hours to do it.  It will finally get to 100% then when it reboots it always says: Update Failed.
