Sound problems after 2.2 update

So I rolled the dice and installed the 2.2 update last Friday. It went smoothly and for the most part I really didn't notice much difference over 2.1. On Saturday, I was out of town and in spotty coverage, and when I checked the phone at one point I saw that I had a couple text and voicemail messages, and missed a couple calls, but the phone never gave a notification or sound. I wasn't sure if I just didn't pay attention, or if it was due to the spotty coverage, so didn't worry about it. On Sunday, as I was driving back home, I tried to make a couple calls and wasn't getting any sound during the call. My wife said she could hear me, but I didn't hear anything. I restarted the phone, and that didn't work. I then pulled the battery, and the phone then worked normally for a while. This morning, I went to make a call and once again there was no sound on my end. I pulled the battery and it seems to be working again.
I haven't changed any settings, so not sure what to think other than to say that this never happened with 2.1, so I have to assume it has something to do with the update.

I had similar audio problems after installing my 2.2 update. I did a factory reset and reinstalled all my apps. Cleared it up. Audio works fine now. And it seems to me the speaker is quite a bit louder now.

A hard reset is a must do item because there appears that previous settings and app seems to cause all kind of issues, I had a issue where I couldn't hear any audio in headset when making or receiving a call, after reset all was resolved, so I suggest backing up and then do a hard rest as well.
Follow these settings during restore to avoid issues being restored automatically.
1. Uncheck "Back up my data" under Settings/Privacy
2. Click Factory Data Reset/Reset Phone
3. After reset is complete only Active Phone but do not input Google Email information
4. Once phone is at homepage go back into Settings/Privacy and make sure the Automatic Restore option is unchecked, even if grayed out, activate "Back up my data" and quickly disable "Automatic Restore"
5. After being sure that the Automatic Restore option is off it will be safe to log into Google and you can continue installing preferred apps and custom settings.
This process will stop all applications and settings from restoring automatically and restoring original issues that usually resolve a number of issues.

I had this issue over the weekend. No audio on the call either way. Tried calling my home phone and vice versa and no sound. I powered the phone down/off and restarted and it worked normally. Have not had the issue recure but I'm hearing from others that is has recurred for them.
Anyone know if Verizon or Motorola is aware of the issue, if it is an ongoing bug or if it is a one-time glitch?

I lost sound on calls both Saturday and Monday. Each time I had received calls but it appeared no one was on the line when I answered. The callers later informed me it seemed like someone had picked up but there was no answer from my end. I was able to restore voice by rebooting but after doing so on Monday, the sound dropped out after a call was actually in progress.
I've since unchecked Voice Privacy, as has been suggested by others. Have not re-experienced the dropped sound since Monday. However, someone told me yesterday it was hard to hear me (sounded like I was in a tunnel). This phone is used for business. To improve my comfort level, until its fixed, when I can I'm diverting calls to my landlines.
I had noticed a few auto reboots on OS 2.1. This particular problem occurred only after the 2.2 upgrade.

Same issue here. Just switched over from ATT iphone yesterday and have had this issue 3 times. Reboot fixes but it's **bleep** annoying. Updated to 2.2 right after receiving the phone.

Sorry to be updating an old thread, but I've been having increasing problems with this and it is becoming tough to deal with. Has anyone gotten a solid answer from Verizon tech support? My four folks kept saying pull the battery and reactivate.

You can go through the process of resetting your device by doing a soft reset. If that does not resolve the issue, try doing a hard reset on your device.
1. Hold Home Button and press power (continue to hold until you see the triangle with an asterisk like in step 2)
2. Screen will show a Android with a triangle with asterisk
3. Let Go of Home Button and Power
4. Select "reboot Phone"
5. Allow the reboot process to complete until phone completely powers up
***Performing a hard reset will remove ALLdata including the Google account, system data, application data, application settings, and downloaded applications. Only perform this reset if absolutely necessary.***
1. Hold Home Button and press power (continue to hold until you see the triangle with an asterisk like in step 2)
2. Screen will show a Android with a triangle with asterisk
3. Let Go of Home Button and Power
4. Press Search Button (Far Left Button)
5. A blue menu will show at top of page, scroll to Format Device
6. Select Yes to verify
7. Allow format to complete (Information at bottom of page will go through a few steps)
8. Once Format is complete Blue Menu will show at top again, select Reboot
9. Sometimes phone hangs after reboot and will take a while but if no response after 5 - 10 minutes, pull the battery and reinsert. (Device usually starts fine after this)

If you return and exchange the device under the 30 days, your contract will remain at the current contract date and the upgrade date will remain as is. You can click on the link below for more information.

This is a very old thread ... in fact pre-Gingerbread. Are you TRYING to do a factory Reset? There are 2 ways to do that --
1 - from SETTINGS / Privacy Settings / Factory Reset
2 - from the Power UP method (holding Home Key, etc) -- the keys & actions depend on which version of OS you are running though. Are you running FROYO or GINGERBREAD?
You should definitely take time to read through this first though - I think the most imprtant thing to take from it is that if you are having a lot of issues with your phone, Don't allow the auto-restore of your APPS -- else if it is an APP issue causing your problem, you'll just reintroduce it after the RESET.
PS - this forum (and most others) are not TECHNICAL SUPPORT people that work for Verizon ... just a bunch of us that have been working with the phone a while and have learned tricks, tips, and techniques to help others. Verizon will occasionally respond to individual (frustrated) users ... maybe they will PM you ...?
Good luck.

You have to turn OFF the phone and then press the power and home button to the right screen while powering on the phone.
@Ambreezy and other Verizon employees
I respectfully ask that you add this prerequisite ^^ to your hard reset steps. This is not the first time I have seen someone confused by those instructions.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I just ran into this issue just now. I also got a hanged browser where it wouldn't do anything even though I kept stopping the page from loading it just kepy loading. I tried turning off the phone but it hanged right there on the shutting down I had to pull the battery which upsets me cause it's not a good thing at all to do that. -sighs- I hope a new update fixes all these issues soon

So my phone started doing this today. Has a solution been identified yet? Is it hardware or software? Will gettting a new phone solve it or is it a Froyo problem?
Either way it is unacceptable and it happened to me after OTA to 2.2.1
Also I am geting random reboots now.

Please read my post above, this is the solution for this issue. Also the 2.3.340 (2.2.1) update was released, it may be wise to update to the update,,,
Check Settings > About Phone >System Updates
