Speed dial for Droid X

I just returned my droid 2 for a new Droid X and I love the phone but for some reason it won't let me do speed dials.  I get to the page that numbers the speed dials from 1 - 9 and when I click on one of the numbers it brings up my contact list just like it should.  I locate the name I want to assign to my speed dial and everything appears to be working.  But then it goes back to the speed dial screen and it doesn't show up that I assigned the number to the name.  I'm doing everything it asks and everything that was needed to assign them on my Droid 2 but for some reason my X isn't recognizing them.  ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Yes.

For some goofy reason, you can't assign speed-dial contacts that way. Use the search box, enter the letters
of the contact you wish to assign until the contact appears. Then select the contact and whatever number of the contact you want to speed-dial and it will assign that number accordingly.

Doesn't make much sense, but it works.

What's the search box that you're referring to?  I'm trying it a few different ways and I got one of the speed dials set, however it just happened and I don't know how to get the others to do it.

Finally figured it out.  I just couldnt use the search feature.  As long as I'd manually scroll through the contacts with the scroll wheel instead of the search bar it would register them under my speed dials.  Thanks for the help.

somehow I stubbled upon doing it this way, go to your phone calls, click menu and speed dial setup.
